Granted they must be one of the favourites for league this year, but if football league take financial fairplay seriously they would be under threat. Wage bill must be immense considering huge squad and big name players e.g. Terry, Micah Richards, Hutton, Glenn Whelan, Landsbury, Chester, Agbonlahor, Jedinak, sissokho, gardner, grealish, de laet, adomah, hourihane, hogan, grealish, mccormack, elmohammady, chris samba, tommy elphick, sam jonstone, jed steer, bree, bacuna
Some of there fans think they will have the slowest defence in the Championship. One even suggested Steve Bruce playing himself to give them some extra pace.
Doesn't parachute payments cover wages for so many seasons after relegation. The skymoney is killing the game
The parachute money is no longer fit for purpose. It's intent was to allow Premier League clubs to hand out contracts to attract the best talent safe in the knowledge that the future of the club wasn't jeapordised if the worst happened and they were relegated. Now we see sides coming down from the Prem using it to pay ridiculous sums to stockpile the best players in the Football League from their rivals plus bring in former England captains to get back up. It's getting to be so comically uneven a playing field that it's barely a sport any more. They might as well just make us start every game against a recent PL alumnus with 10 men and let the opposition have their side plus Yiadom for 90 mins.
Maybe not 7 goalkeepers, but pretty much 4 players for every position. If Hourihane and Bree get more than 10-15 games a season under their belt they will have done well.
Hourihane will get at least that, be surprised if Bree gets a start in a league game - unless he goes out on loan
Tommy Elphick and Ross McCormack did not travel along with five other members of the squad on Villas close season tour to Germany. Elphick and McCormack are the subject of bids from Sunderland with Birmingham City and Leeds United also keen to take Elphick apparently. Bruce knows he has to thin his squad out and was prepared to give McCormack a second chance after a reported fall out earlier in the season, but the fact that he has not gone on the tour has raised further doubts that he is likely to be with the Club in the foreseeable future.
God it's so depressing isn't it. What can we ever hope to achieve against the money in this league now. Yiadom about to join the list of players who've left too. A while team picked apart and nothing we can do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Fulham, Norwich, Reading, Hull, Sunderland and Middlesbrough will all win the league. Because spending vast sums of money of overrated or over the hill players wages will always guarantee success....
Villa reported as being close to permanent transfers for D'Oliviera from Norwich for £8 million and Rhodes from Wednesday for £12 million. Surely they've got to offload some players now to avoid penalties under FFP if they get those two.? They lost 3-0 at Cardiff yesterday. Just shows the difference between us and them as far as strength in depth is concerned. Bree and Hourihane would have probably both been starters in our regular eleven. Yesterday Conor got for on the last 13 minutes and Bree was on the bench the entire game.!
Wolves also interested in D'Oliviera and Rhodes as well apparently. Can't be sustainable in the long term paying these inflated figures on transfers and wages. Some of these clubs will go bust in the not too distant.
If the £12 million figure is correct for Rhodes, then that just sums up how daft things have got. Yeah he cost Wendy £10 million, but he's done very little to justify that price tag. Just like Wendy's to gamble on going up, then offloading him without losing any brass when they fail. Spawny porkers, but more fool the club that values him at £12million.
It was worth the 2 million profit for him to **** their play offs up. Never liked the kid until then.
To be reyt a few of the villa fans I know at work are suspecting brew rattling Bruce's wife as they cannot see any other reason why he's not in the side
