Given time this, injured players to come back, one or two more signings...this current team will be better than the team we had in January before it broke up
I liked a lot of what I saw today. There's definitely a lot of raw talent in the side, but there's a hell of a lot of work to be done just to stay in the league. Selling Marc Roberts was lunacy of the highest order.
I agree that we miss him hugely at the back. But he had a tendency to punt it long and without that we are playing through midfield a lot more which suits us a lot more.
Why not? It's definitely not beyond the realms of possibility, although we're clearly a long way off at the minute.
I think that's a very valid point, and something I commented on when we sold him and signed Pinnock; that perhaps we wanted a ball-playing centre half to go alongside Angus. We definitely seemed to want to play it out from the back today at every opportunity, even in some very tight situations. On the one hand it's great to see, although it only takes one error and it can easily cost you a goal. We're not Spain, although it's good that the players have the confidence to already be attempting that sort of thing - even if it did lead to me hiding under my duvet a few times!
Goose likes to play the ball a lot. My one and only criticism of him last season, apart from that dodgy frosted tip hair that he had at start of season, was taking a touch too many when dribbling out of the back. I missed the game tonight, but I gather that he and Jackson were looking solid?
Their positioning was certainly pretty good when Forest were getting balls into the box. The main problem seemed to be a large gap between the defence and midfield when we were out of possession, which was space Forest could and should have exploited better. Having said that, if the midfield had sat deeper, we may not have been able to break so effectively. But as I mentioned in another post, we'll need to be much tighter than that if we want to avoid a possible hiding against someone like Boro.
I thought Gus had a good game tonight. Jackson was better than he was on Saturday too. Forest were a better side than Ipswich and besides from a couple of scares we coped with them pretty well.
Agree about the midfield sitting deeper. Potts and Moncur don't do enough without the ball for me and Forest should have exploited that more. We looked better when Bird came on I thought.
Unfortunately my stream collapsed so I had to survive the final few minutes refreshing on here and hoping against hope that no more goals went in!
Bird hardly got a touch to be honest but i dont think moncur did either when we were without the ball. He put a shift in though. Gave it a good go abd the experience will serve him well. Especially a win.
