Eyup! After lurking around on the forum for quite a while, I figured I might as well sign up, so here I am. I'm not originally from around here. I grew up in The Netherlands supporting De Graafschap. After having been a season ticket holder there during my youth for about 10 years until life and studies moved me away from my home town. I still support them even now, but only from a distance through match reports and keeping up to date with their wheelings and dealings. My wife and I moved to the UK 6 years ago and ended up in Hull for a bit. Almost 5 years ago we found ourselves a nice place in Darfield where we've lived since. After settling in the football itch started to come back. I started following what Barnsley FC were up to. My wife had never been to a game, so we attended a few games during the 2015/16 season. I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did she. So we ended up getting ourselves season tickets for the 2016/17 season, which we have obviously renewed for this season. We got our tickets before the season was over and they promply made the playoffs and got promoted, which was a nice little bonus! Some other sports I enjoy watching are Forumula 1 and MotoGP, so some weekends can be quite busy. The only sport I do myself is running. Other things I enjoy are travelling (whether it be a weekend in the Dales or a trip to Spain, I like them all), videogames (Football Manager, Cities: Skylines, Transport Fever, etc.), boardgames (Settles of Catan, Ticket to Ride, etc.), beer (drinking and making), and a few TV-series. Well, this turned out a bit longer than I anticipated! I hope to enjoy discussing football (and other stuff?) with you lot going forward. Up the Reds!
Great story. Love to hear about football fans adopting us as their club, despite having little connection to the town. You're certainly not alone on this forum in terms of that.
Good job your attention was turned eastward when arriving in Darfield. That lot in Doncaster might have got your support!
Welcome to the area the football club and of course welcome to the house of fun...wait until they say you're not a proper fan then you know you've made it on here lol
Eyup mate , Aan boord te verwelkomen And if tha wants to know why we chant scabs at Forrest game I'm sure someone will tell you.
Yeah, it's not great. Makes it less accessible. I've done my homework. I don't quite agree with the sentiment, especially throwing it at people who had nothing to do with any of it. But I tend to stay away from those kinds of discussions.
