Not sure who be continue to be linked with but would love Kevin Long back an experienced central midfielder and Mcburnie. Would be happy with that. Oh and a natural left back
I think were ok at centre half . McCarthy seems to have made the right back position his own , it all depends on the Yiadom situation really . I can see Payne and Mowatt leaving the club .
Also depends on formation. If we continue with 4-5-1 I think we are good up front but could do with a more experienced midfielder. If we switch back to 4-4-2 then we've an abundance of midfielders but would need an extra striker
Definitely missing a ball winner in midfield. you know, the small, ratty, kick your shins in kind just like Josh Scowen. Fraser Fyvie, just signed for Aberdeen from Hibs, would have been perfect. Basically a ginger Scowen. I hate seeing us lose the ball in the opposing half, Moncur's head drops as if to say "oh no i've to run back to the half way line again" and he just sort of jogs back. No urgency, no wanting the ball back. I think the RB position, as stated, is firmly held by McCarthy now. Yiadom appears to have isolated himself somewhat. We'll have to see how Pearson develops. But according to the harbinger or truth that is Alan Nixon of the Sun, we're after older heads in a CM, a striker, and a full back who can play CB.
Isn't that exactly what Joe Williams does in addition to being excellent on the ball? I think we've played an absolute blinder in bringing him to the club.
McCarthy made the RB his own? Mmmm I'd say promising but far from that. Posted in another thread but his positioning was very questionable, too close to the centre halves when the opposition were on the attack, so they fired balls out to the flanks, he then had to try and make up that ground but unable to stop the crosses which caused us no end of problems. Has the makings of a decent RB but has to work on that.
Exactly. No place is nailed down yet. Which is great. Lots of lads coming back, plus new signings potentially. Competition for places is just what we lacked last year.
do we expect the mcburnie deal to happen now what with lorente back in training and siguurdson joining everton .
Can't really see McBurnie coming? Swansea have hardly any attacking options to the point where he is actually getting game time. Hedges could perhaps do a job up front so bringing another young forward in would seem an unnecessary gamble. If we go 4-4-2 I'd like to see an extra forward but not sure McBurnie woule be the one.
One thing you have to beat in mind is what he's been told to do. PH's comments last night suggested they wanted to prevent Forest getting through the middle and forcing them wide. If you're doing that then you'd ask your full backs to tuck in narrow to limit the space inside. I personally think he looks good. He's obviously got things to learn (as do all of them) but he looks like a really good signing from what I've seen and I can't see anyone getting him out the team at present.
Looks like our old friend Omar is trying out for the Gavin and Stacy reunion. Off to Wales with Warnock
We surely don't need to pursue this McBurnie thing anymore, because along with Bradshaw, Ugbo, Payne, Hedges, & Brown, we've also got Thiam as well. Although Payne could well be going. Im disappointed its not worked out for Mowatt for whatever reasons, and if Mallan might be on his way already then thats a shame. I thought Kev Long did a good job for us at the back and Burnsley don't seem to rate him long term.
If Alan Nixon is right with him saying we're looking at "older heads" at RB (who can play CB too), CM and ST then I don't think McBurnie will happen.
Does he get to play regularly in the first team though, it looks like hes only a bench warmer for them like Yids will be whoever he joins.
