At the end of the day, the decision that the miners in Nottingham took made absolutely no difference to their jobs, livelihood or communities. They were also crapped on from a great height by a government that was intent on getting rid of the mining industry in this country and did sweet FA to help the communities after taking away the primary sources of employment. If they had followed you on strike, you would still have seen the pits closed. If you hadn't gone out on strike, the pits would have closed. There was no alternative to that eventual outcome short of assassination of Thatcher and her entire government, and the attempt by the IRA failed... The only difference between the two areas is that Nottingham city has a better economy than Sheffield offering more alternative jobs and employment opportunities to those affected. There are now grandparents in both towns that were not born when the strike finished. (someone born in 1985 could have kids in 2001, and grandkids legally in 2017)
Just to say that the family of the Forest fan involved got in touch with the club this morning and they've personally thanked Royston Tyke. Good stuff.
Brilliant news. Always nice to know that the majority of Barnsley fans are well meaning and decent human beings, summed up perfectly by the actions of Royston. That is what makes me proud to be a Barnsley fan. Let's not misconstrue anything, as this post has (in its utter bonkersness) shown that the hugely vast majority of Barnsley fans are decent and sensible folk. Only one or two who are slightly behind the evolution of the species which is to be expected in any society.
Have you read anything that Tyrone has posted? I haven't directed my responses to anybody except Tyrone so not sure why you have replied to me? I said Tyrone was lumping all Forest fans together - I never mentioned 'we' as in plural or anybody else. Tyrone is the only one using 'we' in his replies by say that 'we' have a hatred of people from Nottingham running through our veins. I haven't once said that anything justifies any violence, quite the opposite in fact - what are you reading? I don't listen to anybody, I make my own mind up and voice my opinions. I agree that 99.9% of fans, whether they were chanting scab or not, would condemn what happened last night. It's a shame that isn't 100%. I include you in the 99.9% of fans because I read your posts last night. I haven't ignored anything that you have said - I have read your posts and I saw nothing overly contentious in them. What have I ignored or challenged that you have said? What has the merits of football chants got to do with what I have said? I haven't once said that it contributed in any way to the actions of those idiots. I happen to agree with you that the chanting cannot be used as a reason for the behaviour of the idiots that tried to attack the Forest fan.
You have also refused to condemn it and said some pretty irresponsible things. On that point I am giving up trying to debate with you because it is impossible and is like trying to plait fog.
Wow Ar feel naughty now tbh. Obviously a misunderstanding or misreading on my part , it's that teccytyke confusing me. Please accept my apologies I've got it wrong
I can't. Condemn something I was not a witness to as I don't know the full facts. Unlike. You I do t have a crystal ball
I had this discussion on Footymad a few days ago with a Notts Forest mod who wouldn't let it go, he was like a dog with a bone. I told him its not a subject I like getting involved with and I refused to discuss it, but his constant criticisms of us Tykes and basically anybody in Yorkshire was getting annoying. Ohh and I think hes since been banned for a fortnight and had his mod status taken away!!.
What goes around comes around I guess. I suppose all clubs have their fair share of such fans. It happens here, it happens at Forest, it'll happen everywhere. Luckily, clubs also tend to have plenty of people who enjoy football over pointless name calling.
It wasn't me who banned him though, and the conversation happened on Derby mad. They dislike Notts Forest more than we do when it comes to footy lol.
So do we take it by the above statement you support / ed the old Conservative party Which if was and is the case, then this would make you in many eyes as bad as the so called scabs, seeing as being a conservative supporter goes against the grain in this area so by your reckoning and present stance on the original post we can therefore assume that all your family members all hold your views and political attributes thus we can then assume that we can tar you all with the same brush and therefore verbally abuse them all and any future generations of your family and their local community because of your own belief system Have i got that right in your argument i certainly have In reality what a load of b 0ll0 cks Yes i get the whole picture and the history of chanting scab, but doesn't make it right what i dont and will not accept that attacking someone from Nottingham under its banner is acceptable at all those that were guilty of this present attack ,not only shame themselves but our football club and the Town too. They also show disrespect to the memory of the very people who were part of this strike the hardship and the way we as a community pulled together and earned the respect of most of the country at the time...those that did return to work will live with their actions to their dying day but should their families and the inhabitants of Nottingham suffer ...i draw reference to the above scenario thus i rest my case and the case of others
I'm always a little bit dubious when I see posts like this. If this did indeed happen then well done: it is our duty as citizens to stick up for and help others when in distress. However it does remind me somewhat of the regular social media 'stories' we see, like "some dodgy looking foreign bloke tried to snatch are Tyson in Alhambra ( despite no evidence ever being forthcoming) Or another favourite " mi daughter chantelle has just been followed in a white van by 3 of them darky type blokes, proper **** up she was". Any one think the OP had an agenda for posting, a desire to highlight the consequence (alleged) of inter/team/town hatred? Or simple self - promotion? Or is my post as ridiculous as some of the others on this thread? I'm hoping so.
The scabs thing a lot of our fans do is one of the cringiest things I've ever seen/heard in football, especially when it comes from young 'ens who couldn't even tell you where a single pit used to be.
Please don't think this is aimed at self promotion as this is the second time this has been accused at me today. I mearly put it on here due to the fact I felt a bit disgusted in some of our lot and just wanted to vent out a bit. Not wanting a "superhero" tag by any means as I'm sure most on here would have done the same given they were in that presence at that time. I'm 33....i don't need attention pal.
