I suppose we were. During the 1960's & 70's, we were either in Division 3 or 4, whilst they were in either 1 or 2. The first time I saw us play there was September 1979 in Division 3. We lost 2-0 and Clarkey dropped Glavin for the match. The following season, we drew 1-1 with Glyn Riley getting our goal. However, at the end of the season we were promoted to Division 2, whilst they were relegated to Division 4.
That was my first game at Sheff U. Seen us win there a fair few times since. Still only see us win once at Hillsborough. I'm nearly 50!! Grrrr
This should be done more often. Eventually it would raise publicity. Anytime an away game is more than say £30, reds fans should boycott and go to a local game instead. It would both help out a local club and show that we've had enough of being exploited. 1,500 less going to Bramhall Lane isn't going to make a stand, but 1,500 going to a Penistone or Athersley game could certainly get media attention.
I've seen us win there three times (November '79, April '83 & February 2008), but then again, I'm old!
Not going, £32 is far too much for a game in the Championship. Will possibly be watching a local non league game instead...
I didn't go to the cup game so had a bit of a long wait. Went in 3rd division when we'd just come up and lost 2-0 and first win I saw was the 2-1 you mention. Not many reds fans there that day.
And all the goals were scored at the far end, too! Saville's goal was one of the rare occasions when I've seen us score a last minute winner away in a derby game.
