He started him and Mowatt a central two. I'm honestly not sure what goes through the mind of Heckingbottom. Before the game was thinking why. Even when Williams came on he didn't change in that half.

Cheers. When did Williams come on and for who?

He came on for isgrove after around half an hour. Should have been much earlier really because it was clear isgrove was injured for quite a while

I'm going to take a wild guess and say he was thinking 'this is a friendly, let's see how well George and Alex work together in the middle'

He came on for Isgrove when he went off injured.

Whats happened to Hedges. Heckingbottom wanted him in and yet he's yet another player of the last 12 month we just don't see in the first team even though we have THREE wingers it seems. The money spent since Heckingbottom came to the clubs a joke. Payne, Kpekawa, Hedges even bradshaw. non of the good enough. and it must be 1.3 million plus spent

Phil stop digging at the manager.

You might genuinely feel that he is causing some of the issues.

If you ever listen to anybody regarding anything, listen to this.

    You're wrong.

Regarding Moncur - five years ago, maybe a little more, there was no such thing as a number ten as a position. It was just a number. Teddy Sheringham wasn't referred to as one throughout his whole career.

And I don't actually think he'd be more effective at ten. I think he'd be a perfectly good '8' if we must refer to positions as numbers if he started applying himself and worked a bit. He's not lacking the ability to be a central midfielder I don't think, with a bit of coaching.

He may lack the effort and desire though

I don't really understand playing them in the final warm up game when it's not something that's been tried in the previous ones to any large extent (if at all?). Surely this game is a culmination of work where you put your starting XI out for the next weekend?

I can only presume Hedges is injured (face mask?) He looked decent in the first game, quick, arkward, tricky, albeit his crossing wasn't great. Certainly tried hard and looked like he might be handy.

What worries me is Heckingbottom doesn't look like he knows his best formation let alone the best XI.

Just shows how pre-season friendlies don't always reflect the true state of the squad. And to get a team to gel can take a while before it suddenly all falls into place.

    Exactly.
And it's going to be a few weeks after the transfer window shuts before we get an idea of what the squad is capable of.

But I fully understand Heckys frustration a few weeks ago about the lack of players being brought in.
Weeks without players being brought in guaranteed a slow start to the season.
We have 3 more points than what I expected at this point.
