...... the opportunity to absolutely rag the club to pieces.
We have a chance here of an exciting take over and yet a few fans just want to pull the club to bits.
    STOP IT !!!

With a bit of investment - priming the pump - we have a great opportunity to see Barnsley Football Club go from strength to strength.

Let's just say this - the SPIRIT coupled with a bit of money is going to strike fear in the fans of Sheffield and Leeds.
    They will hate this news.

Some fans have expressed fears. I haven't seen anyone "rag the club to pieces".

As Supporters who care deeply about the Club we are divided. Some are enthusiastic and some are rightly
cautious. We are all only human and as humans, most of us can have a tendency to be very wary of change.
As we are aware the Club was founded in 1887 and for a period of 81 years re- up to 1979 we had had only 10
    different Chairmen /owners.

I started supporting the Club in 1987 when Geoff Buckle was the Chair. He was succeeded by John Dennis 1989-2002,
Peter Doyle 2002-2003 and Patrick Cryne 2003 to date. The common link for all fourteen custodians is that they were
active in the local community , which surely resonates with Patrick Cryne as he faces one of the hardest decisions ever
in his business life. Unfortunately as we are sadly aware ,Patrick Cryne is ill and will no doubt be reluctant to sell the Club he has supported from being a boy , especially as it's a massive step into the unknown for him , the Club and its supporters.

It sounds very much as though negotiations are well advanced, which suggests that the due diligence checks have been
done and our prospective new owners are poised to take the Club over. Why do they want to buy Barnsley FC is the
big imponderable.? From what we've learned so far, the aim is to fund a push for promotion to the Premiership.

Like any business the new investors will be interested in growing the business to generate profits.
These would come from increased Season ticket sales, match day hospitality/accommodation opportunities the
£84.4 million TV money and £1.9 million out of the £399 million prize money for every place you finish in the League.
(Chelsea earned £38 million from finishing first and the bottom Club got £1.9 million last season.)

The matter is out of our hands , but if as we are given to understand the Nice model is the one being agreed, we can possibly take some comfort in the fact that Patrick Cryne/ and or his appointed representative will have a 20% stake in the Club and the present Board/Back office Management Team, Manager and Coaching Staff can be left in place to hopefully take us forward.

Our one Season in the Premiership was disappointing because we were quite clearly the poor relations compared
to some of the wealthiest teams who made up the league that year. That one single season energised the Town and its fans
and for me , it would be great if next time we do get to play with the big boys, our new owners will have the wherewithal
to ring fence their investment and keep us there.!

    Agree.
    All good stuff that.
What I am referring to - is not the point that some fans will be cautious about the take over - that to me is a reasonable concern.
What I'm talking about here is those fans that are saying really negative things about the club like ......... why little old Barnsley, we haven't a big enough fan base etc etc etc.

They aren't negative things they are reasonable questions.

It is perfectly reasonable to ask why has somebody chosen us? And it is entirely reasonable to mention that our fanbase is one of the smaller in the second tier making the potential return on investment smaller than with another club.

Fan base has little to do with it, rewards for promotion are equal

That depends on the aims of an investor. If they want to earn a quick buck and plan on being in and out in a couple of years then yes you're right it if it is somebody wanting a long term investment then the potential customer base becomes more of a factor

If we stay in the Prem the income from TV is still far in excess of gate receipts

My main issue with some of the nay sayers is that they just want to blindly hold on to the notion that little old Barnsley 'do it properly' and don't cheat by spending millions blah blah, us against the world, its complete ******** for a start, and little englander mentality imo.

The truth actually is that we've spent millions of Patrick Cryne's cash just to survive and if he was a lot richer we'd have probably spent a hell of a lot more too as he'd have likely pumped more in given what he's done for us.

Someone got it right with the league of gentleman picture. Some want Bfc to be a 'local club for local people and we won't have the likes of them round here'.

Well, to carry on the sketch I'll adopt the character of Tubbs.

'You were wrong Edward. There is a Swansea. And other places'.

The 'new road' will bring 'strangers' but it's not the case that they won't understand our local people and local ways...

They are that's right but just because the TV rights are the highest earner doesn't mean you ignore the potential revenue from everything else and you also have to remember that premier league clubs pocket a cool £1m every time they are on TV with logically teams with a higher TV draw (more fans) Beng on the most and picking up the most money. To put that into perspective under the current deal Liverpool would have picked up £19m more than hull irrespective of league positions

Qprs fanbase is small they have a billionaire owner so do Brentford, Bournemouth and even Donny rovers so why not us? If we were to be promoted we would sell 20k season tickets last time 20years ago we sold as many as we could over 16k and they was demand for more.

I wasn't saying that I don't see us as a good investment I was simply saying that people raising those points and asking those questions weren't being overly negative and they were genuine issues

Fair enough will have to wait and see what happens. The blokes a billionaire and the American banker won't be short either so I can't see them wanting to build 100 houses on oakwell and running off it would be pocket money to them. We are one promotion from the big time he has done well with nice so hopefully can take us to the next level. Will have to see what happens in the coming weeks.
