As it happens I once met Roy Castle at the Fort Crest Hotel in Birmingham City Centre. He came in to use the gym. Or the sauna. Or to get a shower. Or something. He had a brown coat on.
My Great Uncle was headmaster of a school in Hemsworth, before joining the Northumberland Fusiliers and subsequently losing his life in WW1
Absolute gentleman was 'Uncle Roy', always wore his brown sheepskin coat in the shower and the sauna, mainly to disguise the fact that he had his manhood pierced.
I once handed him a flat round disc with a hole on the middle and grooves in it on both sides. I said."Roy is this a record?"
To be fair. I didn't really speak to Roy that much but his wife was really lovely. Was back in 1992. I used to work in a hotel near to the theatres. John Craven was a regular, and Paul Nicolas (Just Good Friends) came in. In case anyone has any stories about them....
? Ahh I can see the similarit... but Craven did News round. Iconic. Used to come.in to.go.on the Sun Bed.
Yes, I have. I once stood in for John Craven on Newsround back in 1985 whilst I was just 9 years old. The producers were very impressed with me, despite accidentally saying '****' live on air, and asked if I'd consider taking over the role once my voice broke. I'll give em a call when it does. And Paul Nicholas' older sister, Nicola, used to live two down from my Uncle Ken. He fancied himself as a goalkeeper before acting and used to have me take shots at him with a snooker ball or some broccoli.
She did, didn't she. We were on about that when I was in the helicopter with her and her fella, Mike Smith. I persuaded him to let me have go at flying it too. Didn't end well...
Wasn't Noels house party filmed on location in Hemsworth? That's where Noel had the inspiration mr blobby, seeing a rather rotund child sat outside the now Hsbc bank on the corner covered in herpes getting spat on by the folk leaving the pubs
The Wolf Man from Gladiators was actually bred in Hemsworth, before he became 1980's Millwall midfielder Terry Hurlock.
You do have a good memory, Jack. Truth is that on air they put it down to a 'foreskin incident' but in reality he just got a little, shall we say, over excited when Cheryl Baker popped a few on for him. Her and I still laugh about that and jokingly now refer to him as Norris McSquirter.
Top gear once filmed a street in Hemsworth, there was a house for sale on the street that was up for grabs at 15 grand! This was only about 7/8 years ago too.
