http://www.jameshudsontaylor.org.uk/ Okay, it's very, very loose, but it is a link. And a number of tourists came from China to visit his birth place. If anyone has a better one, lets hear it.
It's hardly a tenuous link. More like a concrete one. Been round for enough years after all. There are millions of Hudson Taylor devotees in China desperate to buy a Barnsley shirt.
Huge link between China and Sheffield, just look at the multi multi million pound Chinese development across from bum hole lane. I don't think it's too far fetched to say Barnsley could be an extension of that.
I think there's around 50 million Chinese devotees, I think we need to spread the word.........BARNSLEY.
When I first started going to Barnsley around 1978, I always smiled when folk greeted me "Eyup mi owd china". I think those people were visionaries. They knew.
Not sure how serious you are re your last sentence but the first one is true. He is regarded as the founder of one of the largest Christian movements in the world. There are millions of Chinese who know of him and of his origins in Barnsley. In these commercial times, it is quite possible that new owners could/would tap into that market and it opens up a whole potential for tourism in the area. There is already a Hudson Taylor trail around the town.
Hudson Taylor is also known to many non Christian people in China as his POSITION of MISSIONARY was well documented in Chinese Culture
