Evening I'm moving house, and need the collective wisdom of the BBS to answer a key question. Which is the best fish shop in the Elsecar/Hoyland/Jump area? I know I should really have researched this before I made the offer, so fingers crossed someone can dig me out of a hole. Any other pointers also welcome!
Sadly I'm not over familiar with chip shops down that way. However, Elsecar has a Heritage Centre called 'Elsecar Heritage Centre' which is a very old collection of buildings built in 2012. They sell old things and have a Thomas The Tank Engine tribute act performing most weekends and apparently it is Ringo Starr who hangs out the window and shouts 'Do one!!' Very angrily to anyone wearing a Rolling Stones t shirt.
Ive no idea because I only goto fish shops in Normy, Cas, Ponty, & Wakey (which are all in West Yorkshire of course). Does that count, do I win a tanner ?.
well if its still going you may like to try the Chippy off the main road at Hoyland Common... do not know the street name but its down the main rod from the Library at Hoyland common... it was called "savages" when I was a kid up there. The fish chips etc where always fantastic... oh and it has the bonus of being the Chippy that a certain Billy Casper went to in the film 'Kes'
Very good call. However if you're willing to travel 2 mi it's a further to wombwell then please visit Tunstall Cross chippy.... wow! That plaice (see what I did there?) Is amazing. They give you enough chips to feed an African tribe and they're delicious. Smashing chippy.
Shame on you Darfield!! Recommending a chip shop in Wombwell when Barnsley's very own hidden treasure is right under your nose on Morrison Road. Same proprietor that had it back in my Foulstone days too. Quality.
Agree with you here mate! Tried half a dozen or so since moving to Wombwell and Tunstall is by far the best!
Haha good point very well made there buddy! It truly is a hidden gem, hidden away in row after row of council property. My mum, a regular at slimming world sessions, says that Morrison road chippy is one of very few across the country that cater for slimming world members. Top marks to MRC for doing that, it must be doing wonders for thier till. I've not been for months pal, I'm sure that will probably change tomorrow ha!
Cracking chippy, mate. There's no much thing as a small portion of chips down there I can tell you that!
Fish shop in hoyland across road from Barclays sammys Run by a freindly turkish man . Very nice Rock mount down king street not bad either
It's never bloody open though. Me auntie jean used to run the shop next door and me grandma and grandads was on the corner. Spent many a happy night rolling home from the Longbow(RIP) and getting some chips on the way hone.
