Geoffry Boycott

Again - I'm not saying Boycott is worth a knighthood - I think he's a cnt and well down the list - Nor Gooch / Gatting or Gower. I would point out he and others have OBE's so many of the arguments about south Africa / Convictions, etc don't wash for me - if wife beating is a threshold for being or not being a knight then why does the same test not apply for an OBE.. It seems hypocritical.

I will repeat my point.

I still dont' know the context of Geoffs statement - he certainly wouldn't have just blurted it out so I have to make the assumption he was asked a question about what he thought his chances of getting a knighthood are - or maybe someone called him "Sir Geoff" in ignorance of the fact he isn't - and perhaps it's a particular sore point for him given the above report that Theresa May put him forward for one. I just don't know.

However, he seems to feel agrieved that there is racism against white cricketers in this area of recognition, Yet because Geoff uses straight forward but clumsy words he's called a racist and forced to apologise by the guardian readers of this world.

Frankly I see no difference between Geoff perception (not mine) that black west indian cricketers get knighthoods like confetti and recent demonstrations by black Hollywood actors complaining they don't win Oscars because they think it's because they are not white - even though they are sh!te at acting - it's not as if Adam Sandler's beating Will Smith to the Oscar FFS.

For me the they either all racist - or none of them are.

 

An investigation by the telegraph put forward evidence suggesting that the lady concerned told her friend that she had "slipped on a marble floor", hence the injury. She had also asked boycott for a payment initially of 150, 000 and according to a barrister later for 1 million pound or she would sell her story to the papers.

 

My wife was friends with Geoffrey's cousin when they were nurses together on the same ward at Pinderfields Hospital
in Wakefield. He was found guilty but has always maintained that the woman who accused him of assault Margaret Moore
was wearing high heels and lost her balance as he tried to stop her from throwing his clothes out of their hotel window where
they were staying in France and banged her head. As HR1 says , fresh evidence surrounding the case regarding Ms Moore confiding in a friend what happened emerged in 2015, but it has never been presented therefore he has never had the chance to be exonerated, which is surprising because he is such a dogged and very serious single minded individual.

A lad I worked with in the 70's used to play for Hooton Pagnell CC in the 70's and apparently quite often Geoffrey used to turn up for their bowlers to bowl a few overs at him. Every shot he played was text book and he never gave the fielders a single chance.

He was telling us that during one session a young kid of around 14 year old ran up and clean bowled him. Apparently Geoff never said a word. He walked off the field went to the changing room and got changed, went to his car and drove off and never ever went down to the Club again.

Quite agree, his abilities and attitude were great in the right circumstances, however, in the County Championship there was no difference between a draw and a defeat so this type of achievement gained zero points for Yorkshire. On the other hand, how many potential wins became draws because of him?
