I thought he had a torrid first 15 minutes but to recover in the way that he did was exceptional. He won his battles and kept it simple and that's exactly what you want from a central defender. He was also the one that started the move that led to Ugbo's goal, incredibly unfortunate to be cut from Sky's highlight reel.
All I'll say is that there are a lot of candidates and the competition is fierce! Although if you've ever read the comments on the BFC Facebook page, you'd think that every poster on here was a potential Nobel Prize candidate, even the numpties. I sometimes wonder if the FB page contributors' first language is even English, or whether it's just an elaborate hoax from abroad.
why, because in my opinion he has been the weakest link at the back, not only this, but last season too... how many fouls or penalties has he given away that have cost us. people on here have their 'favourites', some may even have their 'insiders' who leak info, but we all have opinions... (that's not a dig at you TT.) i only saw Lindsey in pre season against Huddersfield and he looked composed and quality in the air and on the ground. Jackson does make mistakes but has exceeded my expectations so far, he may yet prove me wrong,,, you have to look at the stats, when MacDonald has played this season we have lost, except in the Carabao cup, but we have conceded every game apart from yesterday. we didn't even concede after he was sent off last week... surely that says something... now he may also be a great bloke, doing his charity work etc, all praise to him for that, but, we are in a results business, and i still feel he is more of a liability than a quality defender. i'll leave it there as one certain other poster on here is more intent on personal insults, not you TT, but they know who they are...
Long term, although harsh on Jackson on most of yesterday's showing, I think Lindsay and MacDonald are the likely strongest pairing. Jackson looked to my eye a potential liability on previous showings. First ten to fifteen yesterday you might argue the same. He came through it and we got a clean sheet but let's be honest, Sunderland weren't very good. We will play much better sides who will use the ball quicker and have better forwards. Jackson to me looks like a dependable deputy, he doesn't look like a week in week out starter. Gus hasn't played that great I know I'm the early games this season but in what I've seen of both he has more about him for me. That said, if we go on a run of clean sheets with Lindsay and Jackson I would expect Gus's return from suspension to involve bench warming for a while.
