love to do this every week but i just dont have time, but after a great win and a bit o time to spare before the big fight here's a few quotes. bit pisseed lol so not many I'm seeing this a lot on here, and it's just not true. Fair enough in the top flight, but not in this league. The standard is *****. Our starting XI, in fact our whole squad is far superior to Barnsley's when you look at individual talent. The difference being they had a game plan (a dreadful but effective one) and we played right into their hands. They were time wasting from minute one. We lost today because we were too slow in possession. They let us knock it around as it allowed them to get men behind the ball, and they just bided their time before we inevitably gave it away. Then they broke quite quickly and got it out wide. It was nothing to do with ability that they won today. They just had a game plan and capitalised on our own supposed 'plan'. Our decision making at times was woeful; it was clear as day we needed to get the ball quickly out wide, and get at their slow defence and put balls in for Vaughan and Grabban. It worked quite well for half an hour until they scored, and then we fell apart. Too many players fannying around with it trying to look good, but doing nothing productive. I don't usually start threads but I've seen every game this season bar the Carlisle one, and it's most definitely not individual ability we're lacking in. We were just far too naive. In a way it was quite similar to the Norwich game, only roles reversed. Barnsley were dreadful, so to lose 3-0 is unforgivable. Grayson made mistakes not only with his tictacs but also his changes. The starting XI I agreed with, and even though they had a lot of joy down our left side, Oviedo is streets ahead of Galloway. I'm not convinced with Ruiter; they floated the most harmless crosses in time and time again, and he never came for one. He's confident with his feet though. Kone is probably one of the most talented defenders in the league, but he's too lethargic. Jones adds very little, Browning is fine but he's no nonsense and his distribution is slow and laboured. N'Dong is good but as guilty as anyone with fannying around. Some of McGeady's touches were class but his passing and end product was woeful. Honeyman started well but faded, but why we stopped getting the ball to those two is beyond me. Grabbban worked hard all game, and what was the point in taking Vaughan off? We didn't win a thing after he went off because there was no focal point. Simply put, we need to get it down, get it wide more quickly and let the attacking players do their thing. It's not rocket science. Can I use and apply the same logic to all the teams that will undoubtably beat us this season? ___________________________________________________________________________ Ah so take away the one result today it's been much better has it? How many results am I able to take away and ignore? ___________________________________________________________________________________ - Agree on Ruiter but not much more. Oviedo was streets ahead of Galloway, and whilst some of our players might have limitations, the opposition are abysmal. What did you make of Barnsley? - I thought they were a really well organised side who did their jobs well. I thought they knew exactly what they were doing. I thought that in the spell when we were playing well, their defence was really solid, especially the keeper and the central defender at number 6, who was light years ahead of Kone. I thought that when they had weathered the storm, they showed the ability and the intelligence to play good football at the right times, with skilful wide players torturing us down the wings. I thought that they were maybe lacking a cutting edge up front, which may seem an odd thing to say but a really good team would have put 6 past us today. I wish we had Barnsley's team. ________________________________________________________________________________________ quoted from part of anoth post "Man for man, Barnsley shouldn't be a match for us" Why do we keep saying this? whatever team we play! We have a squad of has been's, never will be's and totally inadequate's! We are probably better,"man for man" than a school team but not by ******* much!! ____________________________________________________________________________________ and Barnsley players are what exactly? Had you heard of any of them? I doubt very much that you had ____________________________________________________________________________________ I don't care whether they were household names or not. Nobodies Brad Potts and George Moncur completely outplayed Premier League superstars Didier Ndong and Lee Cattermole today. Nobodies Harvey Barnes and Adam Hammill tore Premier League superstars Bryan Oviedo and Billy Jones to bits today. And nobodies Liam Lindsay and Matt Jackson had our strikers in their back pocket all day long. Barnsley have a better team than us, made up of better and hungrier players than us. The point at which our ******* realise that is the point at which we may be able to make small steps forward. _______________________________________________________________________________________ This was fookin Barnsley not Fookin Brazil ________________________________________________________________________________________ If Bain does not clear out this **** and give Grayson the tools in the next 6 days... I will Fookin empty Argos, I will paint the sheets, I will arrange the funeral, I will arrange the boycoutt, I will storm the fookin gates.... Fookin Barnsley....... ________________________________________________________________________________________ If you think today was an embarrassment; you are in for a long hard season as Barnsley are not the worst team in the division. Did you think the would roll over and have their tummy tickled? The team and fans think Sunderland are a relegated team, with low morale and **** footballers. Jeez, bout time you grew up son it's a big world outside. ________________________________________________________________________________________
Some good stuff on there, but some either have short memories or aren't old enough to have known anything different from premier league yo yo club. I can remember going to Roker on the last day of the season and sending them into a relegation playoff.
I was there that day too and got told by the police to leave early if we valued our skins. They were a team of oldies and a bit slow I seem to remember.
They were 2-0 up and missed a pen at 2-1 We got chased in our car after the game. It was a bit hairy. Lol
