Proof if proof be needed that the cost of players is just a financial circle jerk for stupid clubs with more money than sense.

Yeah, but if we could waste millions like that we'd be successful too.

We would have to trust Hecky not to waste money on tripe like Ndong.

Fingers crossed the takeover collapses eh?

I'm sure we could find half a dozen good players and pay £3m each for them. It doesn't necessarily equal any better value than buying them at £500k a piece. More so if you then have to pay them £15k a week.

The worst performer from an away opposition for quite a while. He was absolutely garbage.

And we could carry on doing what were doing and have the financial wherewithal from the "modest investment" to bring in more of the same and have a better chance of keeping them too.

Maybe next time Barcelona are recruiting you should tell em don't buy the next Messi he costs too much there's a lad at Brechin he will do a 'similar' job...

I'd forgot about him, I was more focused on Kone who was rated at about £15m not so long ago & looked shocking.

We've been there in the past with Frimpong, O'Connor, etc who don't have a care in the world & are only there for the pay day & I'm glad they're long behind us

Messi was signed by Barcelona aged 13, cost them nothing (aside from his growth hormone treatment) . Funnily enough some at the club weren't convinced he should be signed. The technical director ended up doing the deal on the back of a serviette.

IMO we've little chance to keep majority of players with 'modest investment' when they can leave for £20-40k a week, especially to 'more recognised' clubs. The gap between our wage ceiling/profile and theirs is simply too high.

Sunderland fans are of the mind that Kone and N'Dong didn't want to risk injury
because they are probably being shipped out of the Club before the window closes.
Reporters on the Clubs games seem to agree with that. Refreshing that Pete Sixsmith who
is well respected in the North-East , said some complimentary things about our players and their performance.
After a defeat like that , it easy to resort to denigrating your opposition, but thankfully, he's avoided that.

Adam Reach was bad last season for Wednesday. Taking out that tug on Yiadom's arm, he looked incredibly out of his depth.

£5 million they paid for him.

Apart from the fact that none of our players have moved away for 40 grand a week, I get that. In fact it's something that I've pulled out when people have been bemoaning allowing our best players to leave en masse.

    BUT

If a rich invester had been in charge of the football club, last season when we were just outside the top six, do you think the outcome would have been the same.

Modest investment is a good starting point, but with the muscle to make things happen when the chance arrives, which we couldn't do last season.
