    Religion

    There I've said it.

Caused more deaths than anything else in the world ever. Fact. (But don't quote me on it!)

I don't believe it should be banned but it shouldn't be supported either or treated as fact by schools, given funding or protected status

    Yes I totally agree.

Can't understand how so many find reason to fight over fables and fairy stories.

    It's very sad but true.
How on earth would you have suggested this to people a hundred years ago and more when all Victorian principals in this country were based on living the good Christian life, going to church, believing in God, good versus evil, all based on religion.
Nowadays the same good versus evil applies but even if you remove the religious aspect people's principals ought to remain the same. We do in theory know the difference between right and wrong.

2 problems with your view. How exactly would you ban it. Religions seem to thrive when banned or actively discouraged.

Even if you could ban it people would still find plenty of other excuses to impose their will on others and causes to fight for

The First and second world wars were not religious wars so your premise that religion caused more deaths than anything else is probably wrong

I don't know what the answer is to religious nutters killing in "gods name" but banning religion is t the solution

"One must state it plainly. Religion comes from the period of human prehistory where nobody-not even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atoms-had the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance and other infantile needs). Today the least educated of my children knows much more about the natural order than any of the founders of religion, and one would like to think - though the connection is not a fully demonstrable one - that this is why they seem so uninterested in sending fellow humans to hell."
Christopher Hitchens (God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything)

Hitch nailed it. Religion doesn't need to be banned - it's dying a natural death on its own as we find out more and more of how the universe works. There are fewer and fewer places (gaps in our knowledge) to posit any supernatural entity. It'll die a slow and lingering death without the need to be banned. That's my twopennorth.

It's not the religion that's killing people, more a few peoples interpretation of a particular religion.

Not sure about the deaths count, the two world wars were not religious and neither was Ghengis Khan who slaughtered millions. But I see your point. However, banning religion would make secular people just as bigoted and ignorant as the religious fundamentalist nutters.
