a few clubs, including us I believe, were interested in taking Sam Gallagher on loan from Southampton.
Only ever scored 1 goal for them, and quite average when he's been out on loan.
Southampton wanted a £2m loan fee for him, and his £10k a week wages in full paying. No takers. Step forward Harry Redknapp and Birmingham.
They have payed £1.2m loan fee, but not paying him £10k a week. Oh no, this is our Arry.
They are covering his £10k a week Southampton wages, and paying him an extra £8k a week on top. £18k a week.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to boom and bust football.

I wanted Birmingham to go down last season because of the way they brought Zola in. I feel exactly the same this season because of Arry.

I don't think you can take Redknapp as a yardstick. He's a **** chequebook manager who has bankrupted nearly every club he's been at.

That's not a transfer. More interesting to look at why we don't have to compete in such business with the likes of Birmingham. We invariably send our loanees back better and more experienced players. Clubs should pay us £2m in development fees...

You often see loan fees where the loan isn't for development purposes, but rather a transfer to benefit the buying club and not the selling club, sort of like a mortgage on a house. Whereas the loans we do are as you say for the benefit of the loaning club too, hence why we won't pay loan fees.

That would be good to have a fee paid to us though!

Redknapp: the proverbial dinosaur helping to keep english football in the prehistoric era over the last 3 decades or so.
Wonder if he's mates with the agent.
Mind you i must say i find this sorry tale a little dubious.
