Many I know will go for Gary Willard but I have got to go with Uriah Rennie against Donny rovers in 05/06 season. It was the only league game we lost all season at home. Think we ended up with 9 men and they got a very dodgy penalty.
Didn't we play about 9 additional minutes in that game? I'm sure Ricardo Fuller was making cut throat gestures to the West Stand.
Willard no question Followed by Sir Trevor kettle stoke Pretty sure he reffed Watford home the following season when he was nearly as bad Loves to give controversial penalties
Willard by absolutely miles. Missed Kettle v Stoke but I've heard it was an absolute stinker. Dishonourable mentions for Uriah Rennie v Doncaster, Mark Clattenburg vs Sheff U, Kelvin Morton v Norwich when he disallowed a goal to award us a penalty, then changed his mind about the penalty, and that twerp who sent Steve Cooper off against Port Vale in 1990. Name escapes me, but he was absolutely atrocious. Oh, and any match involving George Courtney.
T'owd coops had a bit of a thing for vale he got sent off against them a few times as I recall , sithi.
Sir Trevor also reffed the Rotherham game in 05/06 when he sent half the Rotherham team off for nothing and awarded us a goal when the ball barely went into the 6 yard box so he could be terrible in our favour aswell.
Willard by the biggest margin known to man. Have you stopped ringing his missis up in the middle of the night yet John?
If I remember right, we were 3-2 up going into 4 minutes of added time. In the 5th minute of that, Steve Foster was given a 2nd yellow card for a very soft foul on the edge of the box. The free kick was floated in, Ricardo Fuller attempted a overhead kick, missed the ball and was awarded a penalty. They obviously scored the penalty (Liam Lawrence hat-trick). I think by the time the full time whistle went, we had played something like 7 or 8 minutes of added time. I remember being sat on the wall near the old brewery after the game waiting for a lift home off my dad, and a Stoke coach pulling up alongside us, stuck in traffic. I didn't make any gestures or anything, but a guy on the bus was absolutely raging that I was looking at them. He went to the front and started banging on the door wanting to get off. Very odd experience.
I took a Spanish mate to that game. After 15 minutes (and we were down to 9 men) he asked me when the fighting would stop and the football begin. Wasn't the first sending off innocuous and the second a 'revenge' challenge relating to the first?
I deleted his number, for fear I'd do something which got me into legal bother. Besides, by that time we'd already got Dean Gaffney's mobile, which was always much better for a laugh when trollied than terrorising the wife of a retired very incompetent referee.
I have a feeling the ref against Port Vale in 1990 (1-1 draw, Archdeacon scored a very late penalty for us) was Tony Ward, IIRC.
I don't recall the name of the ref mate. Did cooper get sent off for kneeing their player in the thigh or was that during the 3 nil loss the season before, the game where vale played in our blue away shirts 'cos there white shirts clashed too much with our star spangled atrocity according to the ref, Futch played against their mad Ron in this game an'all if i recall correctly, sithi.
