..Great musician who along with Donald Fagan were 'Steely Dan' and could always combine great songs, their own talent and great musicians (many also top session players like Steve Gadd) to create memorable albums. A real musician's muso.
Very sad. Apparently received treatment for an undisclosed medical complaint recently but the cause of death not yet disclosed . RIP Walter. Incidentally saw that my favourite Band the Eagles reformed for a series of gigs in August in the USA. Don Henley had said that following the death of co- founder Glenn Frey , the band would never play again. However the three surviving members Henley, Timothy B Schmit and Joe Walsh were joined by Country music multi-instrumentalist Vince Gill and Glenn's son Deacon Frey for a number of selected Concert dates. Comments seem to be that further gigs and a possible future tour of the UK can't be ruled out. Hope that's correct , a truly fantastic band especially live.
If we're talking soundtracks to your life then Steely Dan are a major part of mine. Was going to make a major effort to see them next year. Too late now. Brilliant musicians.
Can,t disagree what anyone,s love there music always playing it my car,you back jack do it again one on my favourite songs.
Donald Fagen Saw them in Sept 96 at Wembley. Same night we played Stoke in that amazing start to the promotion season. 5 Live had commentary so I watched the Dan with headphones in one ear listening to Thommo larrup one in from 30yds. God bless you Walter. And Neil.
No never heard of him/them. I know Steeleye Span but not Steely Dan. I'm still chuckling at your last comment.
Sorry but it's Donald Fagen. That apart I think they did, and Fagen still does, some very complicated melodies, funky, jazzy and very musical. I still listen to some of their old favourites, Fez, Babylon sister, etc, and Fagen's newer stuff. For them that's never heard of them then these are a great listen...... https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...C643F9A7FAC4360EFB9FC643F9A7FAC43&FORM=VRDGAR https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...F88B1817ACD0E6BF86F6F88B1817ACD0E&FORM=VRDGAR
Doh! Senior moment ... was trying to multitask (monitoring a long overdue Acronis backup on a laptop and a PC) got me Donald and Walter mixed up for a minute there. Complex chord progressions, as you say, but somehow easy listening and great to sit with a glass of 'vinos muchos collapsos' in hand.
I you love a bit of Dan, might I suggest Sara Isaksson and Rebecca Tornqvist's album of Dan covers - 'Fire In The Hole'. Absolutely beautiful set - many completely reworked. Sounds utterly sublime. In my top three Steely Dan albums, it's that good!!
