We've got a boxing expert here ladies and gentleman. The guy was selling out Wembley after 18 fights and became unified heavyweight champion, and is probably the biggest sports star in the UK but yeah I should "give over"
I dont agree he is probably the biggest sports star in the UK - biggest boxing star but why does that make him a bigger star than Chris Froome, Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton, Mo Farah and others.
Biggest sports star in what context? Money? Nope Success? Nope Instant recognisability? Definitely not. I'm not trying to play down his achievements or anything but I don't really see in what context you could consider him the biggest UK sports star? He has competed in just one match this year. Can you be considered the biggest sports star based on ONE appearance this year?
If and when he actually unifies the division then maybe. Up to now his achievements are good but not amazing. Boxing expert no but a big fan, i like AJ but I'm not on the Eddie Hearn hype train. When he finally get around to fighting wilder and hopefully wins he would have a shout.
Your standard response seems to be if anyone disagrees with you or gives an opinion you don't like you call them an "expert". If we are to infer that your opinion is correct, what makes you such an "expert"?
Give the guy some credit. Joshua has had 19 fights now.. Wilder has had double that. I rate Deontay Wilder extremely highly but Joshua has fought better opposition in his 19 fights than Deontay has in 38. Joshua's achievements ARE amazing, period.
Might have been a little harsh of me to say that and I take back the sarcastic remark. Just seemed unfair to me to gloss over Anthony Joshua like he's nothing.
Wasn't glossing over him and i do give him credit more to the point i want him to succeed just think he has a hell if a long way to go. Where as the likes of Froome and Farah are at the very top of there sports.
I respect that, and I understand what you mean. You could easily make an argument that Joshua is top of heavyweight boxing right now though, but I do see where you're coming from. I'm probably being a little bias too. I think Mo Farrah is a machine but I've never heard of Chris Froome until this thread.
Joshua shouldn't be in contention for SPOTY. If he is it just shows how weak the years been compared to Olympic years. It was a good win but he was fighting a man years past his best who'd been out of the ring 18 months. If there was an award for sporting event of the year or something like that then he should be in contention with it been at Wembley & a great comeback
That may be true but they are also unlikely to be voting in the Sports Personality of the Year contest. My Mrs hates soccer but loves most sports - though not boxing either. - she has heard of Messi and Joshua and will undoubtedly have heard of all 10 that are nominated. Are you telling me that you really have never heard of Chris Froome a man who has won the Tour de France 4 times. If thats the case you cant possibly have a reasonable opinion about who should get the award for Sports personality as you have gaping holes in your sports knowledge
I'm not a cycling fan. Watched a bit as the tour Dr France cake through Barnsley but that was just for the scenery. Things I know about cycling 1. What the tour De France is 2. That the pack is called the peloton (can't spell it though) 3. Who Chris froome, Bradley Wiggins, mark Cavendish and Chris Hoy are. 4. That Armstrong got done for drugs and many there are at it. If my knowledge can be so poor and yet I've heard of him then everyone voting in a sports vote should have.
Guys, I never said I was voting or anything like that. Just think Anthony Joshua is a good shout. 1) FYI. I don't know what the Toure De France is, I'm guessing like a Tennis grand-slam but cycling 2) I don't know what you just said 3) I've heard of 2 of those 4) Kinda remember it I openly admit I am ignorant of cycling.
If you have no idea what the tour Dr France is despite it being the third most watched sporting event in the entire world with viewing figures dwarfing that of the Superbowl many times over and despite the fact that it came through Barnsley just a few short years ago then your opinion on sporting matters holds very little weight
ANTHONY JOSHUA BECOMES UNIFIED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, SELLS OUT WEMBLY STADIUM AND IS THE BIGGEST BRITISH SPORTS STAR RIGHT NOW HOW DARE YOU THINK THAT COUNTS FOR ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW YOUR CYCLING. I admitted it was bias to pick Joshua, admitted I'm ignorant of cycling and am fully aware I'm not the SPOTY deciding vote.
