I'm generally a hop-forward IPA drinker, but just recently I've really been getting into milk and sweet stouts. Not for every day as I said, but tremendous dessert beers.

They certainly are. I was never really into dark beers until the 'craft' revolution came along and began producing aforementioned styles. Also a keen IPA drinker and have recently come across Wilde Child brewery from (dirty) Leeds who are producing some awesome beers at the moment esp DIPAs.

I actually agree with you on this one Tyrone, I tend to drink more ale than owt even though I drink lager as well but the 3 breweries you mentioned are probably my 3 least favourites.

I had the Tiny Rebel Stay Puft on draft in Guild Hall a few weeks ago, absolutely fantastic! Between Chorley, Leyland and Preston we're spoilt for choice with micropubs around here.

We sure are. Chorley alone has a ridiculous number of micropubs (9 at last count) though they are all a bit samey with okayish ale from the usual local breweries. Leyland has two cracking places, esp The Golden Tap who get great beers in from far and wide but the Market Ale House isn't far behind.

Preston are supposed to be getting a second Gin/Craft Ale microbar called 'Plau' but four years after work began on the site the place still hasn't opened.

I've just moved to Leyland after 3 years in Chorley, Golden Tap is my local now.
My mates own Shepherd's Hall Ale House in Chorley which I'd argue is the original and best out of all the Chorley ones!
A bit further afield but Wigan Central is a cracker too!

Aye Sheps Hall is by far the best in Chorley and probably one of the first to open in the UK. Wigan Central is superb and like the Golden Tap just minutes away from Preston by train, so quick you can usual get away without paying.

When we played Bolton season before last 3,000 northenders descended on Chorley, was a great day on the ale.

Shep's was in the first 100 micropubs, I helped them out a bit the week before they opened, possibly painted one of the tables you've had a pint from

Reading this thread makes me so depressed that Barnsley centre has so few good ale pubs :( Chorley must be half the size yet apparently has 9 microbreweries! What's Barnsley's excuse?

Must admit our last two trips have involved stopping off in Leeds and getting the latest train possible to Barnsley. However last season we did end up in a very decent micropub after searching in vain (albeit rather drunkingly) for Bar No7. Also heard The Dove is fairly decent for ale?

As for tomorrow both The Guild Ale House and Moorbrook are in fine form ale wise. Limited 10% edition 'Jaipur X' has arrived on keg in the GAH from Thornbridge brewery and joining the excellent Brass Castle/Wilde Child Brewery collab 'Vociferous Agreement' (also 10%) is the very juicy 'Quantum State' from Deva Craft Brewery.

    Sithee 'morrow Tykes.

Ha ha! When the Moorbrook reopened in 2014 after its refurb it introduced me to modern 'craft' beer and beer that was 5/6/7% and more. I initally drank these ales as I had drank Boddingtons (RIP), Thwaites, Black Sheep etc and this caused a few pre-match problems before I realised I would need to slow down and not always drink pints or avoid certain beers until after the game.

Nice little micro pub up the Victorian arcade in Barnsley if you make it from Leeds that is.
Only a stone's throw from number seven.

If you read the thread, the OP was in a friendly manner giving loads of info. The third pub he mentioned was a Robinsons pub, that had 8 different ales on.

Tyrone's comment was impolite. I should have just put up with it I suppose...

Sorry for trying to be supportive of someone from another club, who has come on this board in a gesture of friendship.

Where's the best place for parking? Looked at parking at the ground but £12.50?!? That's more than half the cost of my match ticket!

Sorry, replied to the wrong post. As mentioned by Connor the Moorbrook has a huge car park behind courtesy of a closed B&Q. Less than £2 for the day and you can nip in for a pint as well. PR1 1NR.
