Must admit I can't watch it, I put it on but didn't last long. Don't like either and add leeds and Millwall to the list I would not want to watch any of them win.

Agreed. An embarassment to Barnsley - drags us back to the 1970s, let alone the 80s.

I can understand why you might feel animosity to those who actually were scabs or those who supported them, but do you think that people who had nothing to do with the strike or weren't even born then are somehow still accountable just because they live in the same city? Do you still hold a grudge against every German Italian or Austria because some of their grandparents were supporters of the 3rd Reich?

The Forrest fans who sing you'll never work again or wave tenners as the police did in the strike will probably have never seen a pit .
It's a football thing now same as other fans sing Jimmy Saville is one of your own to all Yorkshire clubs .gior trying to unjustify it gerrover thissen.

I've never heard the forest fans sing "you'll never work again" without at least a few renditions of "scab scab scab" preceding it. It's always our dribblers first (not that that makes it alright)

There's a few chants that I've been embarrassed about by our fans , the red suspenders for one sticks in my mind.
Chanting scab is way way down on lists of embarrassing chants unless your a stuck up gimp that's ashamed of our recent past.

The red suspenders one is as embarrassing as it gets tbh.

I'm neither stuck up nor ashamed of our history or where I'm from. I'm proud to tell people I'm from Barnsley for the most part. But I think choosing to bring up something from 30 years ago at a football game where half the attendees won't have been born, let alone broken the strike, is a major reason why people view towns like ours as backward. It's aggression directed at families and kids who for the most part had nothing to do with what went on. It creates a needlessly hostile and bitter atmosphere where there doesn't need to nor shouldn't be one.

That, for me, makes it embarrassing.

Some fans will view our town as backwards whatever we chant/don't chant.
Do people view Liverpool fans as backwards because of the Munich chants or man Utd fans because of Hillsborough.
No they view then as scum and rightly so .
Any other chant about background , accent , or past non human suffering is met with ah well it's a football chant.
That's all the scab chanting is ,a chant to rub the opposing fans up or to get an atmosphere.
Anyone embarrassed about that is stuck up imo. Especially when there are far more abusive, racist uncaring chants doing the rounds. At the side of a lot of clubs chants Scab is way way down the list of embarrassing chants.unless you are a scab then that's a different matter.

PS aggression is a different matter, that has nothing to do with the chant that's more to do with the person , any chant can get these morons fired up even nursery rhymes for some of em , so I don't think bringing the chant up as an excuse for aggression is fair .

    PPs
The Forrest Barnsley games would be a lifeless souless atmosphere without us singing scab and their singi g you'll never work again imo

Why do you want to live in the past? Get an education and see what doors open.
I guess it boils down to what standards we set ourself in life, unfortunately there are parents who set near me with kids who find it acceptable to f and Jeff every word.

It's how some people are brought up and pass the same standards into the next generation.

It says a lot about the people chanting such things.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the context behind our adoption of the "red suspenders" chant? It has been sang at Oakwell for as long as I can remember but it doesn't appear to be directed at one particular set of supporters.

What's that got to do with chanting scab?
Trying to bring morals of other people's behaviour to enhance your argument?
Ffs everybody that has bad behaviour chants scabs in your pathetic little shitty snotty world.
I've got news for you I don't f and jeff where theirs children,I don't chant offensive or disgusting lyrics about people suffering or there terrible misfortune .
But I chant scab in the ponty end or at City ground as loud as I can .
I don't go up to individuals or chant it outside the ground as to personalize it or to be abusive.
    What the feks your problem.
