Not just in this case, but I wonder when those that appoint managers then sack them rapidly will start to consider their own positions ?

13 managers in 14 years - including caretakers .. One had to stick eventually. We aren't a paragon of virtue in this regard.

It simply followed the trend of the previous few years,.After Wilson left in 1998, we then had Hendrie, Winstanley, Bassett, Winstanley again, Spackman, Hodges, Parkin, Hodges again & Gudjon before Patrick bought the club.

Fair point. Before admin we'd only had about a dozen all century (some daft stat, don't quote me exact. I guess we have been OK-ish in the last couple of years.

Some of that nonsense was under administration. After the way Thordasson and Ritchie in particular were treated, I view our managerial appointment activities with little or no faith in the process. We've dropped really lucky with Heckingbottom.

wasn't being funny mate, just quoting from the Beeb headline. 4 league games indeed. Given that Prem teams don't take the cups seriously it makes it even dafter. :)

I've only been watching for 41 of our 130 years in existence and I've seen the vast majority of managers we've appointed....(15 were appointed up to 1973)

Only two managers (Hodges the second time round & Gudjon) were appointed during Administration. All the others were before that.
It may well have been luck rather than judgement that Heckingbottom was appointed. But no more so than when Wilson was given the job in 1994 after Viv Anderson left for Middlesbrough.

I didn't think you were, old mate, as it would've been totally out of character.

Hardly blessed though are we ? Or haven't been in recent history. Hecky's success masks a lot that's gone before imho.

Thordarsson and Ritchie (along with Robins IMO) were the best managers we had under Cryne before Hecky fell into the club's lap.

Funny that they were given very little time but two of the worst - Davey and Johnno - were the ones who Cryne had the most faith in. If not for Bristol City doing us a favour Johnno would be in charge now and we would still be in League One.

    Agree 100%.
I'm just trying to point out that it's been going on for more than fourteen years, with the club under different stewardships.
There also seems to be a trend amongst some fans demanding a manager's removal far quicker these days, with chairmen/owners/CEOs more than happy to pull the trigger.

Strange that they expected a team, with very few new players, to go from playing Sam Allardyce style football, to the style of Ajax. You'd expect it'd take a lot, lot longer than five games.

And it wasn't De Boer's head glancing sitters wide of the post.
