Are we going to ask Conor to come out the villa dressing room for ten minutes so he can walk around with the legends and do a lap of honour? I think the question should be asked.......!

 

Somehow don't think it would go down well with Villa fans!!

 

Whilst I'll thoroughly enjoy seeing some of our former players from 20 years or so ago (Ashley Ward, Adie Moses, Darren Barnard, Craig Hignett, Bruce Dyer), the ones I'm particularly looking forward to are those from when I first started watching Barnsley, Eric Winstanley & Barry Murphy. If people like Les Lea can also be present, so much the better.

 

Hope glavin is there. Would love to hear the song when he's introduced.

 

Sadly I won't be there, (gutted missing this, Millwall and Tottenham) but I've got to say, what a fantastic effort to do this. The 125 anniversary was a big damp squib, and this is the sort of thing we should be doing more of.

As a kid, one of the things I loved reading in the programme was "Oakwell Centurions"... all the players who'd played a 100 times for the reds and shared what they'd done and gave insight to the period they had played. I've often thought we don't link to the past enough and getting ex players introduced more and talked about is an important thing for future generations and ensures legend is carried forward.

at QPR last season, they introduced a few ex players onto the pitch, chatted with them, and effectively inaugurated them into a hall of fame.

I'm unaware we have anything like that, but I'd love us to start to have some form of enshrinement of our legends, whether an online digital record, maybe an interview with them while they are still with us (similar to some of the ex player interviews starting to emerge on BPF in the community on youtube), a physical wall, or series of pictures in the vast space we have available and can be built over the years.

The sad words of Patrick could serve us well and act as a catalyst to speaking with and celebrating our iconic legends publicly while we have the opportunity.

I love the idea of a Hall Of Fame. We should do this annually with a big do/dinner with fans in attendance on a Friday before a game then bring them on the pitch at Oakwell on the Saturday.

 

I was just thinking something similar, except I'd have 1 or 2 players inducted per match. Maybe an "old-timer" from the 50s, 60s, 70s (and further back if they are still able) and someone more modern (80s/90s/00s). Bring them onto the pitch and show a reel of their highlights (if we can find any) on the scoreboard and on the website along with an announcement about their career before, during and after and a plaque of some kind on the wall in one of the stands. Must be a few hundred players that have played over 100 times for us over the years and each of them arguably deserves recognition.

 

A BFC Hall of Fame is an absolute belter of an idea! I think 1 or 2 per match is overkill though and would dilute the accolade somewhat, I believe. One or two per season however would make it something special.

 

I heard Richard Kell will be there with 2 stretcher bearers.

 

Anyway us fans abroad can buy a programme online and get it shipped?

 

Les Lee sits in ESL so he'll be there one way or another.

 

Is there an advert in the Chronicle? I know a few people who get all of their Barnsley FC news there. Quite a few older people who have no interest or knowledge of technology. Think it might be a nice idea if possible to reach a wider audience.
