https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/why-mr-moneyball-billy-beane-bought-into-barnsley-tvtvrdk23 Tory lovely person. Typical cliched and disrespectful journalism. Clearly knows **** all about football below the Premiership. Looks a smug **** too.
Thanks Jimmy. Conan - I think that you do, but are so used to using it you don't realise that 99% of the people who look at that link can only read the first paragraph.
As Gordon says below - you only need to read the first paragraph. I don't give too many political opinions on here but I definitely do not subscribe to The Times.
Decent article, no need for talk of crumbling stands, precarious existence and facilities needing upgrades, although, this may be exactly how journalists who mainly deal with Premier League clubs see us. If you spend a game in our press area and one in Chelsea's, you'd probably think the same. I'm surprised he hasn't talked of our Moneyball successes - Hourihane and Mawson, Scowen etc or the success of our academy - Stones, Bree, Holgate in the piece. If you are going to talk of Moneyball, explain it and show examples.
Typical patronising attitude from someone who knows very little about us. Apparently we are a yo yo club - I've been watching 40 years and we've been relegated 3 times - one of those from the prem! One decent bit was how James Cryne copied the player rating system from Beane ...
You're constantly slating the state of Oakwell and the match day experience. Which bit don't you agree with? It's not a dig at you Conan, just interested in why you've found it so disrespectful.
It's need work - that's a fact but it's not dilapidated is it? No need to use that word, call us unfashionable or our existence precarious. They picked the worst picture possible to paint us in a negative light. Anyway, I'm allowed to criticise the ground - I pay to sit in it at least 23 times a season. It's like someone calling your kids ugly - you can do it but no one else can!!
Numerous errors clearly. Was one that we are 6 million in debt after making a 13 million profit last year?
So, is the '£6m debt' those underwritten by Cryne through the rough seasons? Money which we all understood would one day be repaid. And the £20m is the purchase price of the club? So what happens to the profits we have made with transfers and champ money? Does that money remain in the club? 20m does roughly match profit and debt. I'm more confused than hemsworth tyke...
Fair points Conan. Like I said I wasn't having a dig or disagreeing with you. I'm just so used to the national media portraying us in this way that I'm no longer surprised when they do.
You'd hope for a bit of enlightenment in 2017 wouldn't you? He will probably be calling Deane Court tidy and modern today.
I would like the media to stop with the generalisations and stereotyping but it's not going to happen. Just a modicum of research into the club would have helped with this particular article.
