From ESL it looked as though the ball came off Jackson, but the highlights show him tripping old Albert. Those online highlights show very little of us - 60% possession but we couldn't create much. We're better on the counter-attack, I think!
Nailed on pen. If it was the other way around there's no doubt we'd all have been screaming for a pen and probably moaning that we never get those decisions as the ref gave a goal kick
For me he got the ball first. I don't care that his leg then tripped up their player, he got the ball. In what way is it different from the decision at Newcastle yesterday, which wasn't given because he got the ball?
Looks like Adomah got the ball first if you watch it objectively. Even if he didn't, Jackson can't bring him down there - Adomah might go on and retrieve it. We might as well admit it was fair enough.
I sit in the Ponty, level with the edge of the 18 yard box where Jackson made the tackle. I thought it was as clear a penalty as you will ever see. So did a number of others around me. My bias towards us is as strong as it can be, but I've since been told he got the ball. Don't know the answer to that.
Agree what your saying naive of Jackson to dive in there but he played the ball and in my opinion he won it. I know ref doesn't have the benefit of slow motion replay but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow. Mind you, I've still not got over them 3 'red cards' against Liverpool on 28th March 1998!
I sit in the west upper and from my viewpoint Jackson clearly played the ball I can't say whether that was before or because of Contact with the Villa player. I will say we will have worse penalty decisions against us this season. I can see why it was given. I haven't seen a replay but the ref and linesmen don't get those either. Those 50 50 decisions seem to usually go against us though. What was disappointing was Jackson didn't need to dive in in the first place
To me it looked as though Adomah touched the ball onto Jacksons foot, a very minimal touch but obviously Jacksons momentum then took him down. Fine margins, just wasn't our day.
I didn't have a clear view in the ground but watching it on the highlights it looks like a penalty although you'd have to watch it frame by frame to be sure. In any case Jackson could have had 2 more penalties awarded against him for handball so we can't moan.
I've now watched it in real time and also freeze frame. Without any shadow of doubt, Jackson plays the ball first. There is a " double" movement from Davis that probably creates the initial impression (from where the linesman was) , that he ( Davis) was upended so you can see why it was given. However, after having watched it several times over now , it appears to me it that is was a very harsh decision.
just to clarify the ref didn't give the penalty,it was the linesman.from the replays he does get a slight touch however what was he thinking diving in there stay on your feet .
Can't be any doubt that Bossman had the best view of those of us in the ground. The Channel 5 highlights leave little doubt it was a pen though, unless you have your Barnsley Glasses on. I was wrong to say it was Adomah - it was Davis of course. He had a very good match. Be pleased with him if I was a Villa fan.
Like I said mate soon has he made the challenge I thought it was a penalty and I'm almost in line with it and quite a few sat around me said the same thing and having seen replays of it I'd still say it was a penalty,
I was pretty sure the linesman gave a corner? He flagged towards the corner flag didn't he, rather than putting the flag across his chest to signal for a penalty? Anyway, crap decision, jackson got a foot to the ball Naive to dive in though
I think he got carried away, not with the decision as it was the correct one but with his manic waving of his flag! He seemed once he'd finished calling in a Boeing 747 to hold it towards the ponty sort of as if he was indicating a free kick, the ref looked at him and pointed at the spot before going over for a chat if I remember correctly
