Adam Davies out for 8 months??? Nay, nay and thrice nay. I guess you'd bring Roy Ironside back, eh?? Be positive - it works, it helps, and you'll feel better for it
Was man of match last week against brentford yet we didnt test him once. One up front won't win owt im afraid. As for davies he drops too many clangers for me. Clive baker had one or two a season davies is half a dozen.
One up front is good with the right players against the right team. Against Forest we could have been out of sight in the first half playing one up front. The Villa fans seem to think Bruce likes his teams to sit deep and then hit on the counter. With the size and experience they had at the back, I only predicted a tough time for Bradshaw.
Finds Davies didn't have a great game on Saturday. Hardly worth wishing him to be out for so long. Someone who's made some outstanding saves his season alone, for example at Preston and Sheffield United
One up front helped us win the games v Forest and Sunderland. It didn't work v Villa because of the way the were compact and pressed high, but it has been successful on other occasions this season without doubt Davies may make the occasional mistake but he more than makes up for it with some outstanding saves. No player is perfect
Just been having a look at Saturdays programme again and was assessing the likely value of the two squads shown. What would you value ours at on today's market ( excluding loans). I would say circa £10 million tops.? Our players have an average age of 23 years old. Transfer market has the Villa squad valued at around £95 million with an average age of 28 years. Puts the Moneyball theory into focus. As we know, we are bringing in players on low fees in in the hope we can nurture them and sell them on for a profit, whilst in the main, Villa are paying top whack for the ready made article. So on Saturday they fielded three defenders in Chester, Elmohamady and Whelan with over 700 Premiership games between them, who cost more than our entire squad put together.! That tells its own story for me.!
It's our whole defence that's not very good and hasn't been for a long time. Davies has been the one constant but he's not had a settled back four and it's resulted in 1 clean sheet in 9 games this season and 1 clean sheet in our last 14 games if you include the last five matches of last season. When our attacking players get it in their head that we are likely going to need to score at least two goals every time they go on the pitch if we are to stand a chance of three points, it puts a lot of pressure on them before the game has even kicked off.
He would have done; it happened; but there's a better chance his confidence would be higher if he didn't get criticised. Not sure Joe Hart would be a better bet
Id say it didnt work against villa because we gifted them 2 goals in the first half. That was nothing to do with the formation just down to individual errors. We still created the chances but suffered poor execution at crucial times . Yes Davies had a bad game but he has been generally very good for us for the last year or so
Yeah I agree in general, but the way they set up did limit how well we got forward and reduced Bradshaw's capabilities on his own (he has done that role very well this season imo). It was always going to be difficult to score many goals because they were so compact, so we needed to make sure we didn't give away many ourselves, and unfortunately silly errors cost us
So a player who has just been picked for his country was so racked with self doubt cos someone on a message board said he's not reight good that he didn't put his body between ball and player? Just checking I understand
Terry was a free Transfer. They paid £1.5 million for Whelan. Chester was signed by West Brom from Hull for £8 million and it is said that he cost Villa more than that when they signed him apparently. Elmohamady has played for Bruce when he was manager at both Sunderland and Hull City. The fee Villa paid for him when he signed from Hull was undisclosed, but Bruce paid Sunderland £2 million for him when he took him from the K Com Stadium so you would assume it was a fee of £500 k or more. ? He's still only 28 years old so he was a good signing in my opinion. I know we're signing young players at the moment, but when the takeover happens, I hope the new owners will make money available to sign some proven quality players to guide the young lads we've got. A couple of good defenders and an experienced front man would do for starters. Look what happened when we paired Wilkinson and Hendrie together all those years ago.!
