Just a quick note about Ike to be honest and what could help him. I hear/ read a lot of what Ike can't do. He can't do X,y or z. I'll be honest I don't agree. Yesterday he played well for me. Caused two defenders all sorts of problems. One occasion in the second half Spurs right centre backs Foyth was rugby tackleing him but he kept going and retained the ball until a player was there to help. Against the top defenders and he did it on Saturday he will cause problems. He's 6ft maybe 6ft1 strong and very quick. Doesn't matter who you are if you play against that they at times will get the better of you. If you compare him against Tom Bradshaw. He's not got any of that and you all saw it yourself, he caused Terry and Chester very little problems and yesterday with Foyth and Vertonghan when he came on In all. I want PH to stick with him. He's not scoring the goals he should at the minute but they will come. He scored 28 last season for Chelsea so we shouldn't have any problems sticking with him. I would be concerned if he wasn't getting the chances against these top defenders. I think Moncur would be better for him and the team over potts.
Thought Ugbo did ok against very good defenders last night. Got his chance on target with a clean strike..Ironically if he'd have mishit it it may have gone in. Can't complain with Bradshaws goal return so far though. And as for Potts/ Moncur, neither good enough for me.and that's where our problems.lie. Potts too lazy ànd.slow (but did show a.bit of.muscle.in tackles in second half), Moncur obviously talented but goes missing in games in a way no central midfielder should. Ugbo looks more of a prospect than Thiam on the evidence I've seen. Not sure Thiam.is fit. Looks.a bit clumsy to me..Maybe lack of sharpness.
Watched it back and it's a lot difficult than it looked from the stand Fired imo. He's going away from goal with his body facing the touchline when shooting and Jan V gets on the lone also. Moncur's an attacking mid. play him there. poch doesn't ask Ali to play cm and why should Moncur. Thiam. Seen him and he's just a strong guy. Very quick. Want to see him play.
I have to say that I like Ugbo. For me, he always seems that he's capable of being a threat to the opposition. Take Saturday for example. It's always difficult to get to the pace of a game when coming on a sub, but against Villa, he got amongst them and was unlucky with a shot that he just put the wrong side of the post. As well as him, I too would like to see Thiam get a run in the team as he is different to others in the pack. Once he adjusts and understands what his team mates are saying to him, I think he'll prove to be a real asset. Big plus point at Wembley was the performance of Jared Bird. What with Izzy coming back, Bird's emergence could give Hecky more options going forward.
I don't know why people are sticking the boot into Ugbo. A few weeks ago it was Potts' turn. As the season progresses I think - I hope - Thiam and Ugbo will get more starts. Their lack of experience at Championship level means they're being eased in but both potentially have more to offer than Bradshaw.
Bradshaw is the best goal scorer we have at present.. by far Potts is at very best average.. the Blackpool fans too a man said he was not great for them . Looks like he's Hecky's Wiseman Moncur can be exciting going forward.. but not often enough... but needs a couple of Scowen's at either side of him to do the dirty work.
Yes - I think Ugbo will come good given time. Thing is - it's the Championship - he hasn't got that time - he needs to hit the ground running NOW. And it's important that he does. Because as things stand - he is the only player at the club - that we know of - that can actually play in the role of a single striker. Our other striker, Bradshaw, is a fox in the box type - and he clearly struggles as a single striker. He would be better suited playing alongside an old fashioned type of centre forward. But we ant got one. Jury is out regarding the other players that maybe able to play as a single striker. Is Thiam more of a winger than a central striker? I think he is. Good reports about young Brown - but is he ready for the Championship yet? With regard to Moncur over Potts. I can see where yer coming from as Moncur can provide that killer pass. But if yer playing 5 across the middle you need players that are able to barge into the box and score goals. Potts is that player.
Hecky is not a manager who has 'favourites' like Flitcroft or anyone else. If someone is not good enough they get dropped, or even moved on often. So the reason Potts is playing is because Hecky thinks he's good enough and helps the team. If he thinks that, that's good enough for me
I took a friend to watch us at Wembley who attends the occasional game with me when we are around London - first time he had seen us since Reading last season and he thought Potts was our best player until he went off. He obviously didnt have the BBS to guide him about who isnt very good I thought Potts has been decent in the last 3 games I've seen him play as well
You make an interesting point. Something mentioned by Tim Sherwood about Renato Sanches on loan at Swansea the other day... Ugbo has performed to x degree of success. Is x enough to keep him in the squad? Or is x enough to keep him in the squad merely because he's from Chelsea. Would we be saying "he's crap, should have stayed at Macclesfield" instead of "he's got bags of potential, being from Chelsea." If Brad Potts came to us on loan from Arsenal would he get the negativity that he does now?
Brad Potts gets negativity because he's a poor player. No other reason. Ugbo hasn't had the extended run that Potts has so you can't judge him the same.
Potts attracts attention because of his languid style. He is not in my opinion a poor player. Whether he is indeed of sufficient quality long term remains to be seen, but he has started well enough for me. Writing him off already is irrational. Plus you may also as well say that the manager in picking Potts has no idea what he's doing. We have bigger issues to tackle than Potts's performances.
He's obviously a very skill full player who has should the odd bit of skill for us, but I don't think he's good enough to be one of our main strikers in the championship. He's not strong enough and doesn't work hard enough off the ball. Loads of times in recent games he's just stood and watched when the ball was close enough to at least put pressure on the defender. Why don't we just give Brown ago I have Probably been a bit harsh having a go at him as it's not his fault BFC have started the season with Bradshaw, a young kid and an unknown French guy as our strike force.
It's often interesting to see how fans of other teams who've not seen us before rate players, because fans of teams often seem to have prejudices against certain players, just because they have perhaps seen them play poorly in the past, and players find it hard to shake that prejudice off. Intriguing to hear that
