Ok, it was poor in the second half but for heaven's sake get a grip some of you. I especially abhor the blinkered assessment of players. You see what you want to see most of the time. Hammill has been our best player this season but was he better than Potts today? Neither were brilliant but I'd like to place a bet that Potts' stats come out ahead of most of our players.
Maybe so. Lies, damn lies and statistics... Brad Potts ran a lot. Not very quickly nor really to anywhere effective. Nothing else. Who’s blinkered? Hammill was quiet tonight but showed one or two moments of quality and looked like a championship quality footballer - albeit one who was not having his best game. He’ll be disappointed with that, his crossing was poor. He was one of a fair few under-performers. Brad Potts was woeful. He just was. He hasn’t always been - but tonight he looked out of his depth and not fit enough. Toss up between him and Fryers as to who looked least like a footballer. Jackson is an accident waiting to happen but he wins headers at least. The criticism is fair. As it is for the rest. He needs to take it on the chin. He’ll come again. Shouldn’t be cheered off though, it’s not like he wasn’t trying. The players massively let the coach down I feel - but he’s not immune. For me going 4-4-2 was only ever going to lead to us going route one, and not competing in the middle of the park. Route one and not a forward who can win a header or hold the ball up. Brain fart of a decision which I think cost us two points, because as poor as we looked, qpr were just as bad
Potts has become the scapegoat for many. As I keep on saying. We have a bang average squad that on the whole is not good enough for this level. That's it, so obviously we are going to struggle. Some will improve, hopefully enough of them and quickly enough to keep us up.
Unfortunately , our fans have always have a scapegoat , currently , we have two, Potts & Jackson & it doesn"t matter how well they play , as soon as they make a mistake , the fans will be on their back , whilst crowd favourites are always immuned from such treatment
I'm not just talking about Potts running around. Typical put down. He put in three really good crosses from the right having beaten his man and one early defence splitter that Bradshaw should have latched on to. How come other people didn't see that? Not saying he was brilliant but was better than many last night who don't get the same criticism. I'm not on my own on this. Big row erupted east stand lower when some cheered his substitution. One guy had been shouting abuse at him from the first minute. You pay your money and all that.
I've mentioned the balls into the box in another thread. But once people have decided they jump on every mistake and overlook the good.
I wasn't comparing Hamill to Pott's in the thread you replied to, just stating that Hamill was one of the rare players in recent games that has actually forced a save. Personally don't mind pott's. I wouldn't say he's worth the gate money alone, but neither would I go just to criticise him. As posted before, I don't think he looks fully fit even having played a lot of football already. He's a big unit to have in midfield. I actually wouldn't mind if hecky shoved him up front. He's stronger and a bigger unit than the two lads were currently rotating. I don't think he could be any less effective.
Wasn't meaning your reply when I said people have made up thete minds either. I don't mind rational debate and I'm not saying he is a world beater either. Just those at Oakwell who are waiting for a mistake so they can scream at him
In 50 years of watching football I've never understood the way some complete tools pay their money and slag certain players off all the time, from kick off onwards. What is the supposed benefit of this behaviour? What is it designed to achieve? How does abusing a young man trying hard to do a new job at a much higher level help him or his employer?
No idea either - I really dont get it - I remember it almost as long as I have been going to games. Been some real classics as well - the abuse Ian Banks got when he first started playing for us from some of the crowd was astonishing - he never turned round some people who couldnt wait to get at him even when he was one of the key players in one of the best sides we ever had
There are with me: - Davies - a great keeper despite a few recent bungles Jackson - is coming on after a dodgy start, he ignored the abuse and just kept trying to improve Lindsay - love this lad, and he shares his name with my best friend There'll be more as the season progresses, but that will do for a start.
I wouldnt describe any of these as crowd favourites. Lindsay might be in time as he looks pretty solid. Jackson is a scapegoat and pretty much always will be no matter how well he plays. Davies has been p!ss poor this season. Always will have too many mistakes in his locker, most fans will agree.
Lindsay is outstanding mate. Cool as a cucumber and will bring the best out of whoever plays along side him, just by leading by example and talking. I feel a bit for the defence at the moment because we are struggling at the other end. The defence has extra pressure on it to keep clean sheets in order to get something.
I meant they were my favourites, I agree they're not universal favourites....yet. I don't understand how you can say "Jackson is a scapegoat and pretty much always will be no matter how well he plays". Surely if he keeps improving and starts to consistently play really well, he will stop being a "scapegoat"?
Because its the nature of the majority of our fans unfortunatley mate. Its the same with Potts, when he does play well you've still got folk saying he's *****.
