That P.H doesn't say which players he wants. He has said before him and his staff make a list of potential signings and gives it to the powers that be to get the deals over the line.Theres no point him picking out players who would demand 10k+ wages he will have an idea on the players he wants who fit into our wage structure.Whenever the team aren't doing well the finger always points at the board for picking players. This happened under Danny Wilson which Patrick denied.Like he said at the time " do you think managers like Danny would let others pick the players for him".The only manager I can think of in the league who was having players brought him for him was Paul Lambert at Wolves and he resigned when he realised what was going off.
I take from recent interviews, although I don't know for a fact, that Hecky would have wanted to start this season with at least Marc Roberts and Josh Scowen in his squad, and that both players would have been happy to stay.. They aren't here.
The spreadsheet generates potential signings based on biometrics. Paul and his team review those recommendations. If accepted the CE takes negotiation forward. As I understand it.
Hecky can suggest who he wants, but if they don't score well on the spreadsheet, they won't be signed.
This. And in addition I'd imagine that scenarios such as Robbo are plugged into the model to make decisions on contracts/sales or at leads inform the decisions. For example, if Robbo had been offered and signed a 3 year contract, at the end of it he would have been 29/30 and perhaps therefore predicted to have no (or a much lower) resale value. The plan is all about maximising returns on investments ergo it's about selling at the right time which has doubtless been refined since the events of last Jan. What if maybe doesn't take into account is the value now to the team of players who may now be at the optimum point to sell but not at the optimum point to sell in terms of readiness of replacements
I am more surprised that the spreadsheet didn't think that offering Scowen an increased contract was a good idea given his age and potential tmresale value if under contract The Roberts thing I understand from a purely business angle. The Scowen thing is a mystery to me.
I can understand that but the cost of keeping him and then selling him in say 12 months time would be much less than the one million plus (fees and wages) for Potts.
I don’t believe Hecky has no say in who is signed either. He also has no say about whether his better players are sold, or any say about how much of the millions generated he isn’t allowed to spend. The quality of the squad is not his doing. The players may well be the best available at the prices we would pay. He is culpable for us not winning last night, going 4-4-2 was madness. But the squad weakness is not his doing. I can think of nobody better who was within the price restraints the club set.
The op was about the players he wants to BUY. How many times have you heard PH say the way we operate is the only way we can operate? Cos I've heard it plenty.
So you think that Hecky thought Ethan Pinnock was an adequate replacement for Roberts? I've heard him be critical of the strategy. You probably haven't.
Stop putting words in my mouth. Of course Pinnock isnt an adequate replacement for Roberts at the moment. Nevertheless he was sold and a replacement was needed. You really do have nothing to contribute other than constant criticism and sniping do you? God knows who you'll have to criticise when the takeover has gone through. I'm sure you'll manage though as soon as we lose a game.
No one knows what's said except those involved. But I would imagine it goes something like this: GG - PH - PC in a open phone conference. GG - we have an offer from Birmingham for Roberts at 2.5. PH - we have cover for that position with Pinnock and that's a fair price - plus it will give us a bit more money to spend elsewhere. PC - ok tell Birmingham they can approach Roberts.
He also said re Marley Watkins "the offer did not turn the owners head, if an offer turns an owners head, we will sell"
More like the spreadsheet indicated it was the optimum time to realise the asset. Readiness or otherwise of any other player would not have come into it.
