In Fridays Chronicle that Mamadou Thiam could get his first start pretty soon as he contemplates going
4-4-2 in future games and he said if he had been offered 8 points from the first 9 games before the Season
started, he would have snatched your hand off.!

Personally I would have liked a few more points than 8 so far, but the fact that Hecky is content, and knows there's a lot more to come, is encouraging for me.

Also interesting about Adeboyejo for the U23s. Has been banging them in for that team so good to see we're offering him a deal. Hopefully he can push on into the 1st team soon enough

How can you blame Hecky for the goalkeeper dropping a clanger? Any half decent keeper would have saved that speculative shot and 3 points would have been in the bag. Are you saying he would have tipped it over the bar if Barnes had stayed on?

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the second half on Tuesday a goalkeeper at this level has to save shots like that.

And we were hardly scintillating against a soporific QPR in the first half, were we (what was it one wonder shot on target and no corners)?

There's so much rubbish talked on here about players not being able to play certain formations - tough, it's their fooking job! How many of our players had played 3-4-1-2 before Danny introduced it in 1996/97?

Today will show whether we have two first team goalkeepers or a first team goalkeeper and somebody employed to sit on the bench and come on maybe once a season as emergency cover for an in game injury or red card

I'm afraid that your memory is letting you down a little here. That formation was introduced the previous season under Viv Anderson. The change came in response to a bad start to the season that was partly brought about by the slowness on the turn of Gerry Taggart and Viv Anderson at the heart of our defence. It was kept when Danny Wilson took over at the start of the following season after Viv Anderson left. It should also be remembered how much stick Danny Wilson took from the fans during that first season as a player coach. You see, the fan memory is very selective about these things. Change is almost always slow to bear fruit.

All top managers have a philosophy on how they want there team to play the game it is then up to them to get the players in to carry out there plan unfortunately there is an uneven playing field with regards to budgets in this case management team and players need time to work together fans should support there team it is all to easy to be wise after the event and criticise formations and individual players

We sold Hourihane and Winnall when, I think, we were 8th in the table. Hadn't been in the top 6 for a while and against the teams that made the play offs we'd lost at that point to Reading, Sheff Weds and Huddersfield and beaten Derby. Hardly compelling evidence we'd have gone up is it?

He's a fair distance off being ready for the first team.

We'd won 5 out of 7 league games up to the transfer window. There'd been a spell of getting 1 point from 5 games about this time last year, so you could argue that the team was growing used to The Championship. FWIW I don't think we had enough strength in depth to be serious promotion challengers, but who knows.

Nope neither do I. Nor does anyone else. If I'd had to bet my house it would have been on us not making it but I guess I'm cautious by nature.
