Dirty Tories.. Edward Heath: seven cases sifted from 1,580 lines of inquiry Wiltshire police involved in Operation Conifer says seven sexual assault allegations were credible enough to warrant questioning Steven Morris and Vikram Dodd Thursday 5 October 2017 20.10 BSTLast modified on Thursday 5 October 2017 23.51 BST Wiltshire police investigated allegations of sex attacks made by 40 individuals against Edward Heath and concluded that, had the former prime minister still been alive, seven were serious enough to merit questioning him under caution. The earliest allegation dates back to 1956 when Heath was an up-and-coming backbench MP; the last to 1992 by which time he would have been one of the best-known political figures in Britain, albeit one whose premiership ended in 1974. Of the seven alleged offences deemed most credible by police, the victims ... https://amp.theguardian.com/politic...ed-under-caution-over-sex-assault-allegations
When you write 'Dirty Tories' at the head of your post, it rather implies that you have already decided that the allegations against the late Sir Edward Heath are proven. In reality, they are not and they never will be - one way or the other. We live in an age where soundbites and sensationalist tabloid headlines appear to direct opinion more than reasoned debate and proper due process. I hope we never get to the stage where people - whatever their political persuasion - are regarded as guilty and convicted of crimes without proper legal consideration. There are many countries in the world where that happens, and they are not pretty examples. Bandying about 'Dirty Tories' is about as simplistic as looking at the Rotherham CSE inquiry and saying 'Dirty Labour'. At a more considered level, I was asking myself yesterday whether it was right for the police to have conducted this enquiry in respect of a person who can never be the subject of a prosecution. On one hand, police resources are scarce, and there are seemingly many, many crimes which have not been fully investigated - partly as a result of under-resourcing. On the other hand, it's possible that an investigation into these allegations could reveal persons who assisted (if the crimes were committed) who are still living and who could be prosecuted. But I think the Wiltshire Police and Crime commissioner's statement on Operation Conifer covers everything, and satisfies me at least that the investigation was properly entered into. http://www.wiltshire-pcc.gov.uk/Events-and-Engagement/Operation-Conifer.aspx
Listen to the Tories and apologists.. Listen if there is a crime on this level committed especially by any politician or celeb it should be investigated .. It was the Tory PM afterall.. I'm sure all those making allegations of rape and abuse were making it up, orsenkat??
I'm not a Tory. The story says he would be interviewed. That is not a proof of guilt as your slant on things would like us to believe.
I know some don't agree but what has this story to do with politics? It's about allegations of a sexual nature. Nowt to do with politics whatsoever. Personally I wish we could ban politics on here. It's a thousand times more tedious that last night's England game. And I didn't watch it.
I'm not a Tory apologist. But I think if you want to see a Tory convicted without due process then some day that could happen to a Labour politician.... or a Lib Dem, etc. Don't we need to just engage brains a little better than that?
Yes you should.. spending half a page on a comment..rather than the issue.. If he was a Tory, lib dem, celeb ex football or whatever .. these old cases of abuse shouldn't be brushed under carpet ..
When in fact the police have said that the statement is no.indication of guiltpf.course they have to.investigate but it doent make him guilty
Which is why they have been investigated to this point. Of 40 initial allegations, the police have dismissed all but 7 out of hand. There can be no guarantee that those 7 would be proved if it were possible to prosecute them. You're a brave man if you can regard them as proved when you don't know the full story. I think there are lots of things to criticise the Tories about without resorting to something that may or may not be true.
See you are bk again defending him..nice use of language ... with all the allegations around him.. and others janner.britton.. and liberal Cyril Smith, savile et al..that we know of.. its obvious where there's smoke there's fire..
Of course, he's done some wrong or the police would not have spent 2 years investigating there were over a 1000 complaints about him in which the police looked into the worst 7, can't any one grasp it he was Prime Minister had his finger on the blow us all to kingdom come button and this made him open to a multitude of things. I don't care what Political Party he belongs or what walk of life he comes from if he's been messing about with kids it wants bringing to justice be he dead or alive.
