Who watches this 'sport'. If the car is the best it will win, irrespective of the driver. A fairer way to determine the champion would be to draw lots to which car a driver has to compete.
Think you will find bottas has the same car but he never beats Hamilton. The car helps but the driver adds a few extra tenths which is a lot in motor racing.
A bit like saying that without a manager a football team wouldnt win. The engineers etc. behind the scenes are all part of the team
I think "irrespective of the driver" is a bit much but the car obviously determines a lot. I watch it pretty regularly and enjoy it.
I've started watching it a bit more in the last 12 months after nearly 20 years of little interest. The reason I'm interested again - Max Verstappen. He's a racer. If was his attack in the wet late last year (Brazil?) that had me engrossed watching a race for the first time in years. I think he went from 14th to 3rd during the last 15 laps of a shortened race, brilliant to watch. Ironic thing this season is that I've barely seen him finish a race.
I like Max too but he's failed to finish too many races this season. I prefer Ricciardo to Verstappen. The way he conducts himself both on and off the track is how everyone should be. They make a great team.
Not sure how much Verstappen can be held accountable for most of the non-finishes this season. He's had some awful engine trouble or just flat out bad luck e.g. when he was taken out at Singapore I think given a couple more seasons at red bull if they can have the car to compete, or elsewhere if not, he'll be a champion in the next few years I do have am awful lot of time for Ricciardo though, incredibly consistent, and again I think if Red Bull had a little more pace, he'd be a genuine title contender. Totally agree however about them making a great time. Probably the best in the business
They should all drive the exact same car and setup. That’s how you would really find out the best driver, never going to happen though like. Hamilton is the most consistent driver.
Would be boring as he'll. It's been tried. You have to remember it's MOTORsport. The engineers the design team, 100s of people are part of the team. It's as much about them as the guys driving the car. One set of regulations and so many different ideas on how to produce the best car. The real problem much like football and many other sports is the distribution of money within the sport.
Must have missed the season when they all had the same budget, engines etc. Yep pretty much like most sports teams. The ones with the most money usually win.
you mean as opposed to the feast of excitement it is now? I've tried to like F1 but after a few laps I find myself reaching for something to read and half watching it. Not enough interesting stuff for anything like the length of the race for me. Its not like I don't like motor sport, I really like rallying for instance
Motor racing is the most overrated, boring heap of ***** ever. I'd rather watch paint dry whilst having my eyes gouged out with a spoon.
I've long been of the opinion that motorsports aren't real sports, otherwise they wouldn't be called motorsports, just sports.
Nah, that would be either code of rugby. You passed the ball forward! Now engage in a group hug for three hours! Anything involving driving a car around a track is not far behind in terms of brain-freezing tedium, though, I grant you that.
Pretty simple, just watch GP2... much smaller development gap. Problem? You get a good driver and the same applies, just see this year and how LeClerc has smashed the grid to pieces.
