    I am very sad to hear that Mr (Bill) Moss has passed away. Mr Moss was my Woodwork Teacher 1962-66.
    He was a Gentleman and a very good, fair teacher, who always gave us some respect.
    RIP Mr Moss.

    That's very sad news indeed, Mr Moss was my Woodwork teacher 1968-72 and I completely agree with your views on Bill. he was also a really good amateur dramatics actor, remember the school play being Oliver one year and Bill played Fagin, absolutely brilliant.

    I believe he taught at Darton too in the late 70's / early 80's - great teacher and lovely fella - he even managed to see some good in my "salad bowl" or maybe it was the can opener!!

    Did he work at the civic in am-dram ?...
    I take it he was the same Mr Moss woodwork teacher ,later cdt when they brought GCSE in, at Holgate/Barnsley Grammar

    Yes he was active with The Trinity Players and I think he sang with local operatic societies.

    I have known Bill all my life but never knew him as a teacher. He directed the first musical I took part in back in 1977 and I actually attended his wedding a few years before as he is a good friend of my family. He was a very good actor and director starting as far back as 1957 with Coop Operatic Society (now the Lamproom MTC) and over the years played Fagin over 20 times! a much better actor than singer he also took part in many plays with Groups in the area.He was without doubt the best Fagin I have seen. I played on stage with him many times, one of those being his last performance at the Lamproom in May this year. He was also a Reds season ticket holder in the East Stand Upper a cyclist in his earlier years and active at Bannatynes gym up to the end.
    A lovely man, never short of an opinion, who I loved dearly and who I will miss as much off stage as on it.
    Rest in Peace Bill.

    I was at Wombwell High School 1960 - 65 and remember him well. RIP.

    I am - left in 1970. I was in that performance of Oliver and remember it vividly. Mr Moss must have watched the film many times because it was as if Ron Moody was playing the part himself. I suppose it helped that they did look very alike! Don't forget that Patrick Cryne is also that same vintage!

    I was in what they called the tech stream. Some of the teachers were very good. Mr Jones, Mr Ogden, Bob Weston, Miss Pounder, Mr Fisher. Some not so good. We were all scared of Mr Clayton.

    I had Mr Clayton for maths in my 2nd year I think it was. A first we were all scared to death of him but the teacher was a very different animal to the Deputy Head. He turned out to be a very nice warm individual and quite funny too. The only teacher I didn't like was Dave Harper our Rural Studies Teacher who was much too keen on using the cane for my likes. He didn't just hit you with it he would jump in the air to make sure he brought it down on your hands with maximum effect. A couple of lads in my class were off school a week after he caned them. There crime was to cut a corner and walk on the grass at The Grange. He would be sent to prison for assault today.

    My uncle was Bert Farrow who was the groundsman and just about ran the Grange, so I knew Dave Harper quite well. Never caned by him though. Got caned by Woodcock, Fisher and Clayton. Perhaps I was maungy, but caning had a big influence on my leaving earlier than I should have.

    I remember Bert. He lived on Princess Street. He had a sister too. I can picture her but I don't remember her name. I lived on Frederick Street.

    I was at Wombwell High School.between.83-88 and have mixed memories of it. Some good times and some bad times.


    Remember Bob Weston the games teacher. We nicknamed him Dungeon Master.
