Thought Boro kept the ball really well, they've got good players. It limited our chances to nick the ball and break on them and we spent an hour on the back foot. I thought we were well organised in keeping them at bay. It did seem likely they were going to score eventually though. We did look much more competitive after Thiam came on. You could argue it was because of the formation change or because we no longer had a lead to sit back on. My guess would be that at some point Boro would have scored a second had we left it at 4 5 1.
People keep saying they looked likely to score. Reality vs fantasy. They didn't score for so long. Williams killed the space at cdm. The attacks were pure pace. Like it was at the den in our last game. We are a very good counter team. Harvey Barnes thiam are made for it. Drag them on and hit them. The game was going good. Do you think a decent manager would have risked it. Don't chase. Look at man u on Saturday. They didn't care how the other team played. They stuck to the game plan and got the max they could get. I keep asking, did Davies make a decent save in the first 55 minutes.
Yes Davies did have saves to make which arnt on the highlights. They should have been level. Man Utd we’re happy to draw at the weekend. Liverpool had 1 chance and didn’t look like scoring so there was no need to change owt. Had Man U not been able to get out of their own half for 60 mins I’m sure they would have made changes.
Here's some reality - an illustration of chances in the form of an expected goals timeline: Before Thiam came on on 53 minutes Boro had created 1.35 goals' worth of chances, working out at an average of a goal every 39 minutes. After the substitution they created 0.45 goals' worth of chances in 37 minutes, working out at an average of a goal every 82 minutes. Barnsley had created about 0.25 goals' worth of chances (splitting the chance around 53 mins as I can't tell whether it was before or after the substitution). This works out as a goal every 212 minutes. We created 0.45 afterwards - a goal every 82 minutes. In summary, the substitution made us significantly more effective both going forward and in defence.
Just a couple of things Phil. Manchester United got 1 point which is not the maximum you can get. Secondly you say "decent manager. Do you not think Heckingbottom is a decent manager and if not who do you think could do a better job?
I think we have been going about this all wrong. I though if you drew the game 0-0, you only got a point. But Hemmsy has just said Man Utd got the maximum points they could have got after their 0-0 with Liverpool. My mind is blown! I blame the F.A. They have pandered to the big clubs again and let them have three points for a draw!
And how did Man United get on against Liverpool? It was a terribly boring game from what I saw of it. Besides, when will you realise that you can't expect us to employ certain tactics just because top clubs use them?. You're comparing chalk and cheese.
They went to anfield and picked up the max they could. They will be delighted with that. Do you think the away fans will care? No of course not. They never got in front. If they had Jose been the manager he his that knows how to win the big games would have shut up shop more.
I just want you to know, 3 is more than 1. I don't use the term 'waste of oxygen' often, but sometimes it's warranted.
Gioer. On paper United should be beating Liverpool and Middlesbrough should be beating us. You're so blinded by your dislike of Hecky that you're willing to spout utter nonsense to try and justify it.
Great analysis. In other words, as we could all (or nearly all) see, we were getting hammered, and it was only a matter of time before they scored 1 or 2 goals. The way the game was going the end result looked like being 2-4 or even 2-5. The change gave them something to think about so they dropped a bit deeper and stopped creating so many chances. After the change, it could have gone either way. Not all changes work, but it was blindingly obvious that this change was an astute move by our manager.
Barnsley once got three points at Anfield which means Barnsley are better than Manchester United which means Heckingbottom is better than Mourinho.
Rubbish. Maximum would have been a win. Do you think man united fans will be spunking because they scraped a draw at Anfield? Why don't you **** off and watch premier league football? Nothing else seems to be good enough for you.
Someone should explain this 442 to me Thats's way too advanced a subject to begin with. Let's start simple. This is a football: Next week we'll examine the goals.
Leaving aside the obvious and picking up the away fans bit - look at the Middlesboro fans reaction to them getting the maximum points they could have at championship side Barnsley. They all seem to think that 3 points was the minimum they should have got so it looks like we did OK If you seriously believe what you wrote up there and its not just a wind up I dont know what to say
Just saw some stats on an Irish site. Mourinho's last 10 results against top six teams away from home. 5 draws, 5 defeats. In the last 9 of those games his teams have scored.....ONE goal. Seems like he thinks one point IS the maximum you can get. Thank god we don't have to watch negative tripe like that. At least Hecky has a go wherever possible.
