i agree with what you say, but as some previous poster said, the churches alone could end much suffering and misery they have been partly to blame for as the catholic church is one of the richest institutions on earth...
Apparently Paris gets more visitors per year than London does and the Tate Modern has become London’s most visited landmark because people go to see Buckingham palace but not the queen as she’s hardly every there more than likely.
Spot on. And those who will no doubt claim they had cushy roles in the military couldn't be more wrong. Of course it is a matter of opinion whether one agrees with the monarchy but some of the responses in this thread are just works of ill-informed bile.
The tourist argument is truly baffling, Chester zoo gets more visitors then the only truly royal residence- Windsor Castle. There is no evidence that tourists wouldn't come to this country if the queen lived in a semi in Croydon. And even if that was the case, what? We should decide on our form of government based on what tourists do? By that measure all those people visiting Lenin's mausoleum must mean Russia needs to bring back communism.
Actually the cost to the tax payer is over £300 million a year, if you remember to add the cost of security which is paid for by the police and the cost of all royal visits which are paid for by local councils and you subtract the taxes which aren't collected from the profits of the Duchy of Cornwall to name but three things which are glossed over by royalists, But then some people don't want to see this inconvenient truth it seems.
I was going to like your post based on your first paragraph which I agree with 100% but then you let it down with your typical 'left-wing' bashing. You constantly throw the term around like an insult without seeming to realise that those of us who are left-wing are proud to be so. It's like me trying to use 'intelligent' or 'generous' or 'kind' as an insult, if it's something you want to be then it's not going to have the effect you want it to have. Also, people have their own opinions on all sorts of things, not all left-wing and right-wing people hold the same opinions on every single matter.
Couldn't agree more. Why can't we all have opinions on a variety of issues, whether political or not, without being forced into a "compartment" and given a label? This entrenched view that everyone is either "left" or "right" is mind-numbingly tedious, and results in page after page of meaningless drivel in long-winded arguments that nobody ever wins. I hope Potts is fit this aft, at least for a place on the bench.
sigh....democratic vote you lost we won end of, same as in next election if labour manage to pull the wool enough and get in ffs , democratic vote deal with it dummy or **** off
I see this said alot but the truth is the royal family generate alot more than than this for the country through tourism ect. I don't mind either way but the money the generate the county out weights this argument.
This is true I didn't see this before I replied to a post. Like I said I couldn't care either way but they generate more then they cost so probley best if they stay. If we want to get some money in let's make the jocks pay for their nhs prescriptions.
345 millli 345 million quid last year. According to relative conservative estimates. As you said not an argument either way but if we are really that skint as a nation can we afford em.
