Some people like Stahlrost thought it was a big laugh when I was saying in August that the club had failed during the summer transfer window to recruit enough strikers and enough striker options.
I warned back then that this failure to recruit was going to come back and bite us.
The loss against Hull can be laid squarely at the door of this failure to secure enough striker options in the summer.

When the weather was as bad as it was - then what's the point of continually lumping the ball up field in swirling wind to two light weight forwards.
Dawson and his central defender partner had a very easy afternoon.
Moving Lindsay up front in the last 10 minutes or so just underlined the fact that the club has got no aerial threat whatsoever.

Hull are by far the worst team I have seen at Oakwell this season.
    But we lost against them.
It was clear to see from the start of the game that Barnsley's powder puff strikeforce was only adding to Hulls confidence.
Half way through the second half it finally dawned on Hull that Barnsley had not got the ability to score - this spurred them on to push forward and from that point you could see them going on to score and win the game.

All of Barnsleys players ran their socks off - we cannot blame any of the players for this loss - on another day and in better weather conditions we might have got a result.
Bradshaw and Ugbo tried their best against much taller and stronger centre backs.
I'm not saying our strikers are poor - because they are not. But Bradshaw especially would benefit from playing alongside an Aylott type of striker.

It was great to see Chien Lee at Oakwell - and the sooner the new owners get hold of the club, so things like the recruitment of players can be improved, then the better for all concerned at Barnsley.

Morning Nudge. You're right about the strikers of course. It was the 6 fast wingers I was giggling about!

Never once said anything about wanting SIX wingers.
I did however say we needed 2 wingers + 2 spare wingers.
I also said we needed about 6 strikers - to enable Hecky to have options.
You and many others on here thought all this was a big joke - hence your 5 goalkeeper comment.
Your comments weren't funny then and they've proved to be not funny now.

It's not for me to judge whether my comments are funny or not - that's for others to judge. I can however judge your comments, and they really are funny!

They may be funny ...... and they are often found to be accurate as well.

Agreed. That post was a good example. Very funny, but not one of the accurate ones.

    What's not accurate?
Your derisory comments about wanting 5 goalkeepers because I said back in August that we needed more striker options.
Or you admitting in this current thread that I was right about the recruitment of strikers?

It can only be one or the other.

It's only ever banter mate, whether you find it funny or not. If you think it's "derisory" then it's end of thread.

We definitely don’t need 6 strikers. No team of our financial stature can carry that many. We do need more strikers and better quality ones. At the minute the only one looking anywhere near Championship standard is Bradshaw. Thiam is still unknown and Ugbo looks too raw. We are 2 options short.

Your comments were made several times in an attempt to try and make my comments about recruitment look foolish.
But what happens when those predictions I made back in August become true?

If you look at most Championship clubs they are running with at least 5 or 6 striker options.
There's been several debates on here on how many central strikers Barnsley has.
It's a difficult one - as IMO Hedges and Thiam are not out and out central strikers.
At this point I would say we have just two - Bradshaw and Ugbo.

If you ask any football manager what is the position on the pitch that you cannot have enough of - they will say 'strikers'.

As predicted - the failure to seal the McBurnie deal - and the failure to have a backup plan B will come back to bite the club - especially if Hecky continues to favour 442.

The only team of a similar financial stature is Burton and they don’t carry 6 first choice forwards. I’d say we needed Ollie Watkins and Oli McBurnie and we would have been fine giving us different options to support Bradshaw with Thiam and Hedges and N occasional substitute appearance from Ugbo.

I agree we you about the recruitment. It didn’t offer enough in terms of quality.

It’s my opinion at the moment that we have about 5 players currently of Championship standard. We needed to invest in players for now as well as for the future. We didn’t. It’ll but us in the arse.

Yes you did, as we already had Hammel & Hedges who you wrote off , you said we needed four more as well as those two

Had we got McBurnie in then I don't think we would have been in this position.

It seems to me that we would have been better with another midfielder rather than UggBoots who is either too lightweight or chose to pull out of the physical challenge which is required at this level. Either way, I do not think he deserves to be even on the bench.

All this talk of strikers and we keep conceding goals of the calibre we did against Hull. When players switch off at key moments you tend to get punished particularly at this level.

Yes - but we absolutely battered Hull.
They were easy and there for the taking - but as usually happens this season - the ball was passed forward to the strikers only to see it coming straight back at us.
If we had scored once we would have probably got 4.
But they noticed that we weren't going to score and that built their confidence to go forward.
