Backs to the wall first half and on the ropes at times but we got to half time changed things and could of arguably won it.... Its incredible what Hecky and the staff are doing down at oakwell in getting these young lads integrated and able to compete in the second tier. Were only going to improve in my opinion and the futures looking brighter than it has done for a long time.
Agreed. And he seems to acknowledge in his after match interview that the team is much better suited to 451
All our summer signing were the type of players that fit in a 5 man midfield. Let's hope 442 has gone as it's a good league 1 formation when we have a strong squad not when we are playing the quality of sides we are playing now.
I thought Wednesday were much sharper than us in the first half, with and without the ball. We just seemed to want too long on the ball. Having said that, Wednesday scored against the run of play with an absolute fluke. Bradshaw was clean through and decided to pass rather than shoot, free kick pushed around the post and a shot from Hamill straight at Westwood. Chances were there. I actually thought the first 5 or 10 minutes after half time was us at our worse, and had they gone 2 up it would have been game over. I thought Potts was excellent when he came on. He won headers, which we had struggled to do for the majority, and he carried the ball and used it intelligently, always looking to get Isgrove one on one with their full back. All in all happy with the way we went about majority of the second half and more positive going to the Burton ( -20 ) game. About time we won there
I'm glad we've tried 4-4-2 but we can accept it's not the right option for us right now and go back to 4-5-1, which I have no problem with. Good result today I think. Would've taken it beforehand and going into 2 very winnable games. Our main problem seems to have been stringing results together. It's no surprise to me with an inexperienced group. It's not like we're being beaten very often, or heavily when we are beaten (1 loss in 5; 3 in 9) but nor are we stringing wins together. But that's the be expected with so many new players. We've shown we've got lots of character and a good helping of quality so I think the future will be positive, especially if (when!) the takeover happens
Funny old game isn't it? Looking at the posts on here from the last 3 games we can compete against the big spenders (boro): we are dog **** and can't compete (hull) and then we can compete again (owls). Waiting with eagerness for the post- burton conclusions.
Correct.. We play 5 in mid-field cos with 4 we are just not good enough = we sacrifice a striker = we struggle to score = we don't win enough games Which is exactly where we are... answer, sorry we need better players.. (at least a couple minimum )
I think you need to be a strong experienced team to play 442 in this league and we certainly are not that. It's also a given that we are not as strong a team as we were this time last year. Saying that we have a bigger squad and potential to improve a lot and takeover permitting should be able to hold on to and add to our squad to progress. Good point today glad he changed formation at half time.
The squad is bereft of a couple of quality strikers and a no nonsense midfield general. Our recruitment up front has been terrible, there's no other word for it. We haven't signed one striker this summer who's up to the task and didn't even manage to bring the right number of options in.
If in January we don't sign a big experienced striker or 2 and a tough midfielder then I will definitely change from a happy clapper to a happy foot tapper. It is screamingly obvious what we need otherwise I think we will play well, improve and survive but we should and could look higher than that.
I think it’s fairly obvious we won’t be signing anyone “experienced” although I suppose it depends how you define “experienced” I think we will go back in for McBurnie.
Then that will be a mistake and I will have start foot tapping. Having a young squad doesn't mean we can't have a couple of older heads in it. Mcburnie will be good but it needs to be him plus 1. You can see from watching the big teams in this league what a difference a older head will make. I think everyone sees that and it doesn't take anything away from the developing side of our club.
Just been looking back at where we were after thirteen games last season. We had won 5, drawn 1 and lost 7 , scored 23, conceded 16 with a GD of +1. So having lost half of our team this seasons won 3, drawn 4 , lost 6, scored 16 and conceding 19 is not too bad all things considered.
