74 today. Norman was manager of the most talented Barnsley team I've ever had the pleasure of watching, which included the best Barnsley player I've ever seen, Ronnie Glavin.
I was 6 going on 7 when that side was in its pomp, they got me completely addicted to Barnsley Football Club. School "news" jotters full of match reports and games in Brierley park. I was Ronnie Glavin. Albeit played more like Ronnie Corbett. My Dad no longer watches the reds, but did so from 1947 to 1991. And he too says that was the finest and most exciting side he's ever seen on Oakwell.
Whoops.. Personally think Norman inherited a very talented team, and has success with it, but performances gradually went downhill and he was unable to correct it. Average manager.
fantastic team that one - best Barnsley team I've seen. Norman got them playing in an attacking way but we were also difficult to break down. The league cup run epolitomised that side for me
I have watched the reds for 56 years & that team was far & away the best I have watched including the promotion winning side to the premier league
I'm six years behind you but fully agree. I've seen three great teams. The Clarke/Hunter team, the Wilson team and the Johnson/Heckingbottom one. The first was the best in my eyes.
Those were the days. A first team squad of just 16 players. The only member of the off field team on the team photo was the manager. Compare and contrast the team photograph this year.
