The initial reason Pat was my favourite was he's a fellow Dodworther. In fact, for a period of time, he lived in a flat just round the corner from me in Gilroyd. Later, he moved into a bungalow he had built on Keresforth Road. However, I soon realised what a quality player he was.
Pretty certain that was my first season also. Can’t remember much about it except that it was a magical, wondrous experience at the time. I guess we were much easier to please back then
We have had some great centre back pairings over the years & my personal favourites would be Evans & Mcarthy , however , Winstanley & Howard were a class act , no doubt about it

probably busy rolling his sleeves up! Still remember him sleeves pushed up bombing down the wing, if only somebody had learned him how to stop!
