Anyone know why they weren't wearing a poppy on their shirts yesterday? Doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just wondered if there was a story behind it that I wasn't aware of
Where were the poppies? And how can you see red poppies on red shirt ? Not having a go but I didn't notice them on any player . I thought they ought to have wore them on their shorts to be more visible .
Probably their choice. Lucky for them unlike a lot of countries they live in a democracy and can choose not to wear a poppy just like the unwarranted dogs abuse James McLean gets.
I agree 100% I feel very fortunate to live in such a country. I just wondered if there was some story behind it, that's all. Didn't mean this as any sort of dig or anything like that
Good question to ask haha. McLean has a point with his reasons behind it and maybe our own players have the same opinion. At least they weren't forced to wear it like they were all seemingly made to tweet about our silly friday announcement.
I don't want to rain on the parade of some of the highfalutin theories above but someone in the WL asked Isgrove and he just said, "it fell off"!
Aren't they usually embroided on to avoid this kind of thing. Surely some super glue was handy for it to be stuck back on. For it to fall off and just leave it could have been avoided.
Complete agree. Absolute disgrace nobody was waiting on the touchline with some super glue to put em back on.
This. I completely back the right of somebody to not wear one but I don't understand why somebody would choose not to wear one. It looks like this wasn't the case with our players.
James McClean argument is if it was just about world war one and two he'd happily wear one all year round as originally it was about people being sent against their wishes to defend our country. But nowadays it also represents other conflicts where people chose of their own free will to join our army, for our government to join USA in trying to police the world by getting involved in other countries business. That if the red poppy was just for world wars and another colour to represent every conflict like Iraq, Syria ect which colour people would wear. He's entitled to his view and I see it a little because many hate the likes of Blair for that reason. Just glad yesterday was so well observed at Oakwell and the guy who played the Last Post did amazing.
Id say, like your stance for remain.... You would again find yourself in a minority with views like this...
