We could have kept Roberts and been in a worse league position than we are now. Birmingham have spent millions have very rich owners and are bottom 3 that could of been us. Are you going to the q+a meeting then?
Winnall and Hourihane were far more important players to lose than Roberts. Yeah he was part of the spine of the team, and yeah I would have liked to have kept him but we've already replaced him.
We are not a club who can challenge every season in this league. We don't have that sort of cash. We can hope to build squads that can have a realistic go every few years. Once Hourihane and Winnall had gone we were never going to be able to challenge this season. We could have kept Roberts as a way of securing us against relegation. That could be viewed as negative. We gambled, took the money and took the chance Lindsay etc would come good. That could be viewed as ambitious as we will have an equally good defender plus cash to invest.
Technical Question:- Are Hemmsy's posts on some sort of time delay - the one at #48 above says it was posted at 4.54pm but my pc says it was posted at 7.27pm - or is the difference just the time it takes for his posts to arrive from that other planet he's on?
I'm just saying that we gambled, sold a good player, got decent money for him and quite possibly replaced him successfully. We could have not gambled and been 3 million down as a result. I'd say that could be seen as more ambitious than just sticking with what we had. Plus, if Lindsay is a success we have another asset worth 4 or 5 million but can afford to keep him next season as he's on a three year deal.
If we receive a head turning offer for Lindsay in January, he will be sold. Just for more than if he was on a two year contract.
There you go again, making it personal. Classic diversionary tactic. I just go on what you posted as apparent fact. Plus (sticking to your words rather than yourself) your post about selling is in the present tense. and thus non - Johnno. Plus I only butted in because you used numbers! And you're very shaky when it comes to the theory of impossibility. Carry on. Don't mind me.
Yeah because that's what I said!! That was always the plan buy young hungry players sell for profit the same one that got us out of league one the same one that has helped us establish ourself back in the championship. So you going to express your concern? And what do you expect from the new owners? If it's to throw millions at us unroll we are promoted you may be a little disappointed
That's where we differ but fair enough. However, with Pinnock, Jackson and Macdonald all possible front rank defenders if we got a massive offer that didnt weaken the team I might well take it.
Having cash in this league does not entitle you to challenge for promotion. If this was the case then villa would have been promoted last season. Look how norwich and hull are struggling. Birmingham too. So so many examples.
Of course it doesn't entitle you to challenge. It's a damn site harder to challenge without it though.
