"We now have the beach appropriate for a tourist resort as after all, Cleethorpes is the jewel in the crown of the East Coast"

WHAT !!!! It's a complete shitehole of a dump. (Many, many years ago it was a place worth going to for a day out and no more, good seafront and loads of amusements, the big funfair down at the far end.)

I give credit to the councillors of Cleethorpes.
Over the last few years there has been a vast up grading of Cleethorpes. The whole place from down at the Fitties up to the pier has had a lot of work put into it.
The flower beds down the front are very good and really well laid out
The beach is part of the Humber estuary so it is not going to be the the best but parts of it are ok. There has been a lot of planting of grasses etc to establish it and there has been a large transformation of the vegetation right down the park areas
The shops etc have all been upgraded, on a basis of clean it up and paint it.
There has been lots of new places to stop built down the front
The main shopping high St has plenty of different shops and you will find what you want
The only eyesore at present is the top dead end past the station but that is being improved
You can go any Sunday and there are loads of people walking the front including disabled people oin their chairs
It is only around 75 mile and nearly on the door step
It has surpassed Brid and Scarboro for a good short day out
I give credit to them for the work they have put in

A bit further, but Whitley Bay seemed alright - as is most of the Northumberland coast.

Staithes is fantastic. I love all the North Yorkshire coast from Filey north to Staithes. The only downside to that area is the weather coming off the North Sea.

Used to go to Cleethorpes quite a lot in the early 70s. Fitties caravan site.

It was maybe rough and ready back then, but we didn't notice as kids. We loved it and always made new mates.

    Happy days.

    A bit harsh that mate.

The East Coast has some lovely places; Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay, Seahouses, Alnmouth, Holy Island, Wells next-the-Sea, Sherringham and Southwold to name but a few.

Can't think of any in Lincolnshire to be fair.... Hang on the coast just to the south of Mablethorpe is ok.

I had a nice day at Mablethorpe in June, we cycled from the car park next to the seal sanctuary through the town and south for about 7 miles and back, the weather was lovely and we had a great day out.

Anderby Creek is worth a look. Between Skegness and Mablethorpe. Only if you like a quiet, sandy cove, which I do.

My walk www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk follows the route of the Cleveland Way on the east coast, from Saltburn by Sea to Filey. It's a magnificent walk, with cliff top views, moorland views, wildlife and nature all around, lovely villages such as Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay, secret beaches that cannot be reached by car, such as Hayburn Wyke, and large towns such as Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. Not everyone's cup of tea, I realise that, but if anyone likes a day's walking it's highly recommended. Not a shithole at all.

For more details start here http://www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk/stage.php?Index=32&Image=0, then click the single black arrows to navigate through the stages of the walk along the Yorkshire east coast. Have a look at the photo gallery and you'll see just how beautiful it is.
