Ahead of #Remembrance Sunday, I visited my friend and Second World War veteran George Durack. Off his Twitter account

Traditionally leaders of the two main political parties attend the Albert Hall .
Do you have a problem with remembering the Barnsley Pals and the WW2 fallen et al ?

I bow to no-one in my admiration for the courage and sacrifices made by servicemen in times of war but it really does seem to me that this remembrance thing is getting totally out of hand. The two world wars happened last century. It feels to me like there is a competitive virtue-signalling thing going on. And when the concept is hijacked by the OP to make a political point it increases my suspicions about the motives of some of the remembrancers (not all). Jeremy Corbyn and anyone else is/are entitled to mark past events as little or as much as they wish to. That, after all is what people fought for.

I despise poppy fascists that have hijacked a once beautiful thing. This year I am wearing a purple poppy to confuse the knuckle draggers. I have no wish to associate myself with far right balloons like Farage who gives speeches at neo nazi rallies.

As for the OP the real outrage is how we treat our veterans when they are alive. Look at theGeddes Axe post WW1 and our the explosion in the numbers of ex serviceman living on the streets under our current Govt. That’s the real outrage. Get really angry about that rather than faux outrage about this.[IMG]

There you go, question answered. Stop this remembrance one-upmanship, ffs. Corbyn probably more respectful than most. Thread closed.

Couldn’t agree more with this. I feel like ‘poppy shaming’ has become a thing now as well. Anyone in the public eye who doesn’t wear one seems to get dogs abuse.

And I’ve learned that a good way to spot a moron is anyone that abuses James McClean for not wearing one

And a weak government with limited horizons is protecting the interests of the elite with no Industrial policy Energy policy or anything to offer most people is being propped up by Ulster unionists with narrow minded values and interests
