Very sad news. A huge part of my experience of being a football fan was watching Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon at my Grandmas waiting for Tim to read out the results in the days before live updates when you had little idea of the scores until full time.

Listening to recordings of his voice takes me back there and gives me a warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling. I'm sure there are many of a different generation to me that can say the same. Thank you, Tim.

Brilliant little clip of his "highlights" there and getting an on-air send off before retirement.

His voice is familiar, obviously, in that way that the old boys of the Test Match Special teams have been but, for me, the BBC voice of the football results will always be James Alexander Gordon. On the radio, obviously, but the sound of his voice means more to me.

I think it was him that read out the immortal East Fife 4 - Forfar 5 result :)

Ah yes I remember legging it back to the car to get the results at 5pm in sports report - once we stopped kicking off at 3:15 anyway! When I first started going we couldn't ever get to the car for 5pm and had to wait for the second reading :)

RIP Tim...sad news indeed ... thats another part of me growing up that dissolves with the passing universe of time.... brought a lump to the throat just listening to his old announcements....and recalling memories Sat at the front of the box eagerly awaiting the bsly score...infact even then whilst listening to him reading out the results I was scanning the page looking for Barnsleys result lol
RIP Tim a true TV legend
