Mate It was exactly the lack of effort in the first half that cost us . We looked lathargic at best , unable complete a 10 yard pass and make an elementary block is unforgivable. I've backed Moncur because he has undoubted quality but today he looked unfit and uninterested .
We know we can't match them with money, but if we don't at least match them with effort then the result is inevitable.
He was blowing out of his arse after 20 minutes and he'd done nowt. He's been given a great opportunity and a second life here ,so to repay the club by being overweight is just **** really .
I don't get to see too many games. My first at Oakwell this season was a 0-1 against Hull, undeserved, but today was obviously a big disappointment and we deserved nothing. Leeds looked much sharper to the ball, and we lost confidence after their goal(s), and struggled to put passes together. A few thoughts on individuals: As regards loan players, Ugbo hasn't the strength or guile, and I thought Gardner was a poor choice as sub, he looked way off it, a poor performance. These are two loanees I wouldn't miss. I'd much rather see our own such as Jared Bird and Thiam given a chance. I thought Ryan Hedges had a decent time, drilled a couple of dangerous crosses into the box and had a fierce shot parried. Fryers improved as the game went on especially going forward, as did Yids. Moncur was a disappointment, was hardy involved in the first half and understandably was withdrawn. Next game for me is Brentford, hope for better things such as I saw in our game against Millwall.
All fair points. Though as I alluded to in another post, it's pretty difficult to take the game to the opposition if you can't string two passes together. The fact that we couldn't was down to a very effective performance from Leeds, and an absolutely catastrophic one from us.
In general I'd say it was lack of quality on the day rather than lack of effort. I'd agree with you about Moncur though. Often forgot he was on the field.
You can't put the effort in if your hiding though. Fryers was shocking first half but made himself available throughout and got better. This can't t be said for for at least Three players on that field today.
Remember the Moncur at the back end of last season picking the ball up 30 yards out driving forward and smashing a shot . Where's that player gone ? He's got the quality but no desire or work ethic .
I thought Fryers had an absolute nightmare in the first half, but was much improved after the break. I don't want to be too hard on him as I think he's a good player and will go on to become an integral part of our team.
Football supporters have very short memories, as Merde Tete says in the original post, we should have won easily at Norwich and then were beaten by a very good Dirty Leeds side who had 2 outstanding players on the day. I can't comment on the Reading game as I didn't go and can't bring myself to watch it on iFollow. Today is another day, Hammill is back and due a good performance - come on You Reds!
