I’m not sure you can just pick out George Moncur today. It was a terrible display from every single player. Hiding or not, it was *****.
Gutted at that performance today. We are not used to seeing our team not give 100% and chase every ball. They give everything every game. No idea what was wrong today but that wasn't the Barnsley team I've been watching since August What a strange day !
I thought today mirrored the defeat at blunts earlier in the season. It was a bit "rabbits in the headlights" The worst thing is, we have had months to gel and improve since that game, and to be fair, at times we have, and that's why today's performance was such a shocker. Even after Tuesdays poor showing.
Well it seems we all like a scapegoat. It was Potts around where I sit. Though they all (apart from Lindsay) were made to look mediocre by a buzzing opposition. Moncur didn't seem to me anywhere near the worst btw.
Definitely love a scapegoat! And yeah Potts seems to get it a lot. I agree with Lindsay but I think MacDonald was also pretty solid. He would’ve been my man of the match but I’m not entirely sure it was needed to be announced today.
The Sky analysis team pointed out several situations where McDonald took the wrong option when Leeds were in possession. I like Gus a lot, but without Marc Roberts by the side of him, he's half the player he was last season.
McDonald irritates me because he fails to find a man when the ball is knocked up to him when there's no pressure on him. He heads or kicks it back aimlessly, thus losing possession, when a simple nod down or lay off to a team mate would indicate a proper footballing brain.
It's only a week since Moncur beat several players and set up Barnes at Norwich. His introduction as Wednesday and Burton helped turn the games in our favour. Besides that, I don't think he deserves to be singled out for any particular attention today.
No - we couldn't cope with Leeds. They won nearly every battle, while our passes didn't find their target, the midfield seemed clueless, and this was the worst display of the season. OK - let's move on.....have we been found out? What's to be learned before Tuesday?
Can't disagree. I'm normally upbeat and positive in defeat but this week has been a tough watch. First half was a continuation from the Cardiff performance, which I put down to the five changes and inconsistency of younger players. The latter might be part of it, but irrespective of what formation or tactics Hecky chooses, we're not good enough to carry 3 or 4 sub par performances. Today we pretty much had 13 below par, slight improvement second half. There are plenty of us who cut them enough slack but today was well below what I'd reasonably expect. Pains me to say that Leeds were better than us, perhaps they should be when looking at their squad, but their midfield will have very few afternoons easier than that. Let's hope Hecky gets a response on Tuesday at Reading. Like you, I've enjoyed watching this group develop, it'd be typical Barnsley to pick up a win there. There were two positives for me: Meeting Neil Redfearn in the car park afterwards. He described us as "poor, very poor, shot shy, passing woeful". Second positive was finally meeting the top bloke that is @arabianian for a drink before the game.
I think the fact that we've only won 5 games from what? 17 games? Tells you that absolutely no one in the side is consistently good every single game. Who we slagging off next week?
