I absolutely accept people’s right to an opinion but Christ on a bike, there’s some ***** in this thread!
I thought he was developing a good partnership with Jason McCarthy on our right side and was surprised that was broken up to accommodate the return of Andy Yiadom.
His work rate, commitment & skill are not in question. We wouldn't be in this league without him. That said, he's flattered to deceive for some time now. If Isgrove was fit then he'd start before Hammill for certain. Hammill's end product hasnt been good enough in all honesty since we got back to Championship level. Not sure about Hedges though tbh.....nice cameo today but looked very lightweight & poor against Cardiff. He'll get another chance at Reading so hopefully he'll take it.....
This is a very good point. The general feeling seemed to be he had started the season well and his downturn in form seems to conincide with Yiadoms return to the side.
That's kinda my take.. I feel he may not be great champ player but jezz he's way, way better than some of the other chances...
This. I’d say we’d be better with Yiadom at left back and McCarthy back in. Fryers has done ok in patches but I’m not convinced.
Not true. He celebrated the Burton win more than anyone at full time and he didn't get a kick that day. First to come over to congratulate Isgrove who had taken his place in the team.
He’s a winger, they tend to be inconsistent. He was our best player for the first 6 weeks of the season. I’d put it down to form, if his current form carried on for months then you could argue he’s maybe past it but not right now
I think he is an important member of the team. Kept at them all game yesterday, but was facing 2 men most of the time. The whole team had an off day, some were worse than others. For me Lindsay & Gus were the other 2 that did OK. Fryers, Williams, Barnes, Davo, Ugbo & Yiadom were garbage. Bradshaw, Potts, Gardiner & Moncur were merely ineffective. Hedges did well when he came on & would have been my MOTM. Bad day at the office. We don't seem to be able to play to the big occasion at the moment. A big striker would at least mean we could try & dig something out from set plays, when we are playing that bad. We have no real options to change things when we are behind.
20 Games 1 Goal 0 Assists. His work ethic cannot be questioned but his end product is lacking this season.
That's how I see it, certainly can't question his commitment or effort, unfortunately he isn't scoring goals or providing much in the way of assists. An unfit Isgrove scored in his first match away at Burton and seemed to offer more of a threat.
He's a club legend, so he won't get slated from me. I do wish someone at the club would sit him down and tell him that he needs to release the ball sooner. He likes to try and do everything himself and spends far too long on the ball (so I can see why people feel it's the Adam Hammill show). I think him holding onto the ball far too long has a negative impact on our attacking intent. It's slows thints down too much. The amount of times I've found myself shouting 'give it/pass it/send him' at him over the last 2 seasons must be approaching treble figures.
TBH I think he's put quite a few assists in , the fact theirs not enough quality to finish them is hardly Hammils fault imo
