Let's ditch the 4-5-1 and go for it please Paul. And let's try big man / small up front :-

    Townsend

    McCarthy MacDonald Lindsay

    Yiadom Williams Moncur McGeehan Fryers

    Bradshaw Victor

    Or:

    Townsend

    Yiadom McCarthy Lindsay Fryers

    Barnes Williams McGeehan Hedges

    Bradshaw Victor

Mcgeehan has been poor. Bird is in front of him IMO.

Needs another crack at it I feel Chris I appreciate comments have been made that he's gone missing since Boro' at home but he's come back from a big injury so needs patience in his development. Although I'd be more than happy to see Bird given a chance too.

Bird did well before. Given McGeehan hasn't pulled up any trees & Gardner has been terrible I think he should get his chance.
I like Potts, but I think he needs dropping too.

Victor I think is in development mode at the moment. Sounds like Thiam & Bradshaw did OK second half.
May as well give them a full 90 mins. Davies needs dropping. If Townsend is the understudy now is the time to step up.
    I'd go:

    Townsend
    McCarthy Lindsay McDonald Fryers
    Hammill Bird Williams Hedges
    Thiam Bradshaw

Can’t disagree with any of that John I like seeing the academy lads given a chance so I’m all for Bird starting a few games. My only worry with Thiam and Bradshaw together is no height or presence up front whereas with Victor he’d give you that. Don’t think we’d have given him a 3 year deal if he wasn’t ready to challenge for a first team spot.

Isn't Victor 5 foot 10, same as Bradshaw, or have I got the wrong guy?

Purely on last night's showing, Thiam merits another crack.

Yes he’s about the same height. I was watching him at half time on Saturday and he looks well built but certainly not tall. Height isn’t everything though. It’s the ability to jump. Compare Potts with, for example, Akinfenwa at Wycombe. Our player barely gets off the ground. Akinfenwa seems to score regularly with both head and feet and looking at him you wouldn’t think he could jump at all, but he does!

My work colleague goes to every u23s home game and all he mentions is Victor and "what a presence" he is and his "height and power" causes problems.

Fair enough. He's not as tall as GG though and I've never thought of the CEO as particularly tall. Power on it's own though would at least be a massive upgrade on the likes of Ugbo!

451 isn't 'not going for it'. 1 striker doesn't mean we're not trying to win a game. Its the best formation for the squad of players we have. The issue is, we don't have the strikers for 1 up front nor the midfield for 442.

I don't think we have the midfield for 4-5-1 either. They're supposed to support the lone striker and they don't. The only time whoever's up top gets the ball is when it's launched at them from the back, and then doesn't stick as they're sub 6 footers competing against giant CBs.

Like Winnall about 5"9 and he scored plenty with his head.

Indeed, Winnall scored one of the best headed goals I’ve ever seen at Cardiff away last season.

Though if he'd been over 6 foot 2 it would have been a nod in.

Ugbo looks pretty tall but a strong wind would take him over. Out of all the strikers we have none are really suited to the lone striker role excpt maybe Bradshaw. Time to play 2 up top though victor would be before ugbo in the pecking order for me and I've never seen victor play.

With maybe hammill for mallan and possibly Bradshaw up top a think it’s a good formation that, good defensive unit and 2 good fullbacks with Williams sitting back when we’re attacking to allow yiadom an McCarthy to get forward, any line up will top what we’ve see past 3 games

I want to know where the high pressing, no fear tactics have gone from a year ago. I can't shake the thought that Hecky is over-thinking things and we've slipped into a mindset of containment and negativity.
