£240k to hold this vote, glad they're awash with cash. Steve Houghton should foot the bill personally.
Basically the Govt are insisting that Borough Councils sign up to join a devolved region with one Mayor in charge , in our case they are pushing for the Sheffield City region. No one seems to know exactly what powers will be gained or lost or how any funding will be distributed. Sheffield has such a poor track record of mismanagement and self interest I wouldn't sign up to anything that could result in subordination in any format to Julie Dore and Co. They effectively shafted South Yorks with Supertram....we all paid for it but never received the benefits that were supposed to come later...as a sweetener South Yorks pensioners were given free train travel, however that was withdrawn a few years ago despite SYPTE having a surplus in its budget. Shafting 2 was the HS2 debacle....South Yorks was going to get a high speed rail station at Meadowhall...everyone in S. Yorks ( who supports HS2 ) agreed that was the best place...Sheffield spent 275k rubbishing the plan and have left the whole of South Yorks with no access to the train. Then there's the current outrageous tree destruction plan and the latest news is that the Chinese billions they have signed up for come from a decidedly dodgy source. I don't know what a full Yorkshire deal would entail, but it couldn't be worse than signing up with Sheffield.
Thankyou , I get what you are saying & I agree with you about getting shafted on the Supertram debacle , we all contributed through our rates but see very little benefit , cheers
So basically we will have two diametrically opposed sides offering pie in the sky unicorn-poo cake, be completely unable to deliver on their promises and we will all be worse off as a result?
It's a couple of councils in N Yorks that are putting the kibosh on a full Yorkshire deal - the govt have committed cash to the deal Houghton etc are reneging on.
Yorkshire deal . Imo it's all pie in the sky for towns like us and Donny etc but we know what a devolved Sheffield City deal means and that fek all to us and Donny with just a little bit thrown to Roth as they're close by and don't needs a lot as the citeh provides for them and will give them access to supertram . Sheffield have shown in the past they are not to be trusted on sharing the pot and maybe a Yorkshire deal will be as bad but who knows .but we do know with Sheffield.
Interesting that 100% of those voting are prepared to vote.for a deal that doesn't exist We hate dem dars Personally, I reakon Houghton has committed suicide on this as he was nailed on for mayor
Just cast a vote to see the scores. Personality, in completely against the reintroduction of an extra layer of red tape I will be abstaining. Interestingly those on the gravey train refused to have a,neither option on the form
If devolution for yorkshire/the north works half as good as in Scotland bring it on. Free education for all free health care free oap travel free prescriptions better social services better transport ..
